Fazer 600 and RF900

What they like to live with. MPG, Distance comfort, Known issues, Motorway speeds tank range and they likes. Cant see swamp bike getting back on the road any time soon so seen a few Fazers going cheap while looking clean and a couple of very clean RF900's what i was thinking of going to view

The RF 900 was the under-rated choice when everyone else was buying fire blades. Very 90s looks and budget suspension, if I remember correctly. I looked at buying one - but went zx9

Fazers - millions of them. Got to be a reason

A mate had an RF900 for a while. I had a ZZR11 at the time and the RF made the ZZR feel like a sportsbike. I hear folk rave about them,but I didn't like that one. Maybe it was bent or something,but it really didn't want to turn. Actually,this particular mate has a habit of never putting air in his tyres,so it may have been a brilliant bike. :lol:

There's a few folk here with a Frazer. Yin has had one as his work bike for a while.

When I rode a RF it felt ponderous and just heavy? But back then I had very little experience of big bikes and tbh, that RF put off of getting any! :D

Due to the training school boss wanting all his half-dozen full time instructors to turn up to do the DSA's DAS certification on a shiny new bike so he got one of our instructors to loan his almost-new RF900 - he thought a big, new machine would make a good impression with the examiner.

He booked slots for us on successive days so the plan was that we'd all head up to Bedford in the company car the previous day, hand it over to the instructor who'd just completed their assessment to drive back in, then stay overnight in the town, ready to jump out of bed bright and early on the morning of the assessment.

So I got on the RF900 for the first time in Bedford, rode it the three miles to Cardington, then had to use it for the assessment.

That started with the examiner setting off down a twisty lane like a bat out of hell on his BMW, presumably to see if I could keep up whilst watching for and memorising the ride at the same time so I could debrief him in a few minutes time. The fact I was able to do that with about ten minutes experience on the bike tells me that the RF was very easy to ride.

IMO ease of use often gets mistaken for 'bland' but it frees up a lot of attention for the other elements of riding.

The only issue with the Fazer 6 is that it's a 6. Excellent first bike, but lacks a bit of fizz. Huge modding culture with them too.
RF, 125hp big fairing, comfy seat, budget suspension, dodgy paint schemes, 170 rear tyre

Big bikes i never bothered about since passing my test. Had a ZRX11 for a year what was hardly used due to work. Everything i have owned has been 600/750's but i always liked the looks of the Fazer and RF but the RF600 and ZZR600 for that matter were built for midgets. I always felt cramp on them. The RF is on an island so that would put some off for buying it so the guy is sending me better pictures soon and as i am away in a week i cant go view to but until the end of the month but i think i may end up going for it if its still up for sale then. New MOT and only front tyre as an advisory.

Being a suzuki, you can chuck a usd front end to sort out the front, most probably a bandit 12 wheel so you can fit 180s and any number of oe shocks will possibly slot in.
It'd be the one I'd choose :obscene-drinkingcheers:

I rode an RF900 when they were new, I'd just bought an FZ750, the FZ was more fun and just as quick, the RF had better suspension and brakes, but it was very dull for a 150+ motorcycle.

a GSX600/750F, but with a Blandit 1200 lump.

Proper sleeper.

For some reason I quite like the 90's Teapot shape, not the later bulbus 00's one.

I had the 750 and loved it apart from the day it wanted to throw me off going round a bend. Its no sparts bike :D Yeah the newer one looks horrid and that tail light looks like an over excited dogs knob.

I had an original Fazer 600 from new as my first proper 'big' bike, back when 600s were at least mid sized bikes. Was a really good bike, fast enough with plenty of midrange, great brakes (when new), lots of comfort, handled well enough, lots of fun. Finish wasn't the best but not terrible.

I traded it at 18 months old for a 1996 Fireblade. In theory the Blade was better in every way, especially at doing 150mph everywhere. But there was a part of me that realised that for a rider of my skills the Fazer was more fun. I pinned that bike a lot!

Only problem with them is you have to drop the motor to do the valves.......every 3000 miles!

Should he not have beefed up the chain and sprocket also. My 750 would tank slap now and then so god know what it would be like with the 1200 engine in it

I knew a guy had one with a bored out 1127 in it, I think it had 11K forks and wheels in it, he had an Ohlins in the back and knew how to ride the thing. Gave more than a few boys a shock.

I had the goatse tail 600 for a while. Dull doesn't even begin to describe it. Like a CBF600 bit slower.
