Green bin waste...
collections are to be charged from October in my part of Shropshire. £56 for the year. I'm refusing and will take to skips in bag's and if this is made difficult I will dump down some quiet lane.
So, who pays and who doesn't. Principal init.

Re: Green bin waste...
They've started charging for green waste in here in Cheshire East, too - but then they are pretty much broke having chucked loads of money at HS2.

There's a Fernando Alonso joke to made about the bin on the far left, if only I were clever enough to come up with one.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 6:39 pm Four bins.

Re: Green bin waste...
They started charging £55 for the green garden waste bin where I live 4 years ago,
but I hardly ever use it so am not renewing it this year.
This October the weekly recycling bin collection is changing to fortnightly along with non recycling.

Re: Green bin waste...
It's a pisstake really. The council tax bill was set for the year from April, then halfway through the year, they pull a piece off and make you pay an extra £56. Looks to me like we're paying for their mismanagement and fcukups as some councils don't pay the extra.

I've always had the opinion that all waste disposal should be free, no matter what the waste. Getting caught fly tipping should automatically mean every penny you and your entire family have is payable as a fine.

Never paid, never will.
Everything gets chucked in a ton bag and hauled down to the the local tip.

Serious risk of inch/mile problems there though.
Besides, it's never gonna be free. Someone has to deal with it all and that someone ain't gonna work for nothing.

Re: Green bin waste...
I agree, but hiow else do you stop fly tipping? I've spent most of life living in the sticks and fly tipping is a problem, make waste disposal free with punative penalties for lazy people who thinks it's a good idea and problem goes away (pikeys will be shot).Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 7:22 pmSerious risk of inch/mile problems there though.

Same here. (Neighbours nearby offer the free space around if theirs aren't full which is good optimisation ).

Re: Green bin waste...
They started charging £50 here a couple of years ago, I live a 5 minute drive from the tip so it was an easy 'no thanks' for me.

Re: Green bin waste...
I'm guessing they start this sham with green bins as any fly tipping has a lesser impact than if it were cans, bottles and plastics. Wonder whats next.

Re: Green bin waste...
Plus everyone generates bottles/can/cardboard waste but few people need a green bin of stuff taking every week.

Re: Green bin waste...
Been paying for the garden waste bin for 6 years, I think it was introduced sooner than that but I didn’t have a garden at the last house.
It works out around £4 per collection, I can’t be arsed to put garden waste in my car for that. It’d cost much more to get it valeted.

Re: Green bin waste...
All waste is covered in the rates bill here.
We have brown bins for food and garden waste,no limit on how many bins to a household. I do my own gardens and my housebound neighbour's gardens,so there is always a mountain of grass and hedge cuttings, etc. Our normal, non recycling bin is hardly used now.
