Odd one: Motoring scam?

Pulling out of Lidl (yeah, ok, but the had piccante provolone in) - turn right onto a majorish road. Nothing coming left , old fiesta coming up from the right , signalling left to turn into Lidl. Double checked the indicator was flashing - pull out, matey boy/girl cancelled his indicator at the last moment - heading staight for me. And just missed not really barking too hard (no anti lock braking etc). Cue barrage of insults in my direct, which I suggested were uncalled for as they were signalling left.

It was a very old car - so is this some sort of scam ( similar to the hit from behind /' claim whiplash) - they would have T boned me - so could have claimed that. But if it was, why didn't they hit me?
Or did the driver just cancel the turn left indicator (from McDonald's carpark up the road) when they realised it was flashing?

Fair point - but if I had been in the other car, I wouldn't have been such a gobshite - but he was about 12

Far as he was concerned, you “pulled out of a side entrance straight in front of him!!!!!” He’ll look on that as more important than his indicator error. And I’d behave like a gobshite if I had to drive around in an old Fiesta.

Flashing indicators just prove the mechanisms are working. Nothing more.

These days they are absolutely not an indication (sic) of intent.

I always wait until i can see the vehicle changing direction.

I get this a lot. Coming out my street folk are indicating left only to go straight and turn into the next street. Since i am a bit of a cunt if i have a gap i just come out slowly. Abuse, Heard it mate now do one.

Indicators do cause confusion in the wrong hands. How many times are we waiting to join a roundabout, car indicating left and then goes straight passed you, indicating too early. I've followed many bikes with their indicator left flashing, we've all done it.

As said, I wait until its obvious they are turning, then I go.

Obviously I see quite a bit of roundabouting here in MK.

It's far far more common for people to exit a roundabout while indicating right IME. I.e. indicate to turn right as you'd expect, but then just leave the right indicator on as they go around and ultimately exit the roundabout.

I see if pretty much every drive around here.

It's quite amusing to consider -

a) a flashing indicator means nothing other than the indicator is working, so

b) you should not take action based on observation of a flashing indicator, therefore

c) it's a waste of time and money having them installed on vehicles in the first place.
