Another pillar drill being done up

Post by cheb »

It's a start:

I'm not sure why but the paint is taking days to fully dry. It's quality paint, not that old and the shed is at a reasonable temperature.

The table will be ready to go on soon.

Ooooh - floor standing pillar drill. If it's a Fobco Seven-Eight I will be well envious...

It's a basic Meddings and will be going once finished. If anyone is interested please message me.

There's another one lurking in the back too, an Ajax IIRC.

And a bigger Meddings, I need to sort the gearbox on that one

Unusual table on that...

Haven't see one with a vertical mounting plane. Be interesting to see the finished item.

Not for me since I have a couple also waiting for restoration (not with a table like that sadly!)

The table also tilts, there's a large bolt underneath.

Sold my Elliott Progress 2 on Ebay recently and a guy in Malta bought it , had a shipping company come and collect it.

And I'm back to this.

Mostly back together:

I plugged it in, flicked the switch and was rewarded by a humming noise and no motion. It would run if giving a helping spin to start it, which suggests a winding or capacitor problem. There's no capacitor so it's the windings. This motor has a centrifugal switch for the start windings. So off and apart came the motor and I found this:

It should, and now does, look like this:

All back together and it runs smoothly.

What looks like metal filings is just paint overspray.

The pulleys are on but no belt yet as I forgot to collect from the other shed:

The only thing left now is the handles.

I've never seen pulleys as shiney as those. Are they new or just polished to within an inch of their life?
