Scenario, what would you do?
You’re behind a cyclist driving at 25 mph ish, maybe 20 ish, and you have 2 cars behind you. You are going to be taking a right hand turn literally 50 yards away, what would you do?
Overtake barely going any faster than the cyclist then make the right turn going slower than the cyclist?
Or
Wait for 5 seconds and make the turn in a safe controlled manner?

Re: Scenario, what would you do?
I had this issue the other day on a trading estate only I was in a bus and it was about 500m, but not straight and with vehicles of various sizes rushing towards us, not always visible.
I just sat behind and waited.
If it's 50 yards, I'd probably indicate right so the cars behind stay pissy with the cyclist and not you!

Life is for living. Buy the shoes. Eat the cake. Ride the bikes. Just, ride the bikes!!

Re: Scenario, what would you do?
I was the 3rd car in the scenario so had a front row seat to the madness that proceeded to happen, I was wanting some legitimate votes first before divulging what happened.Noggin wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 5:41 pm I had this issue the other day on a trading estate only I was in a bus and it was about 500m, but not straight and with vehicles of various sizes rushing towards us, not always visible.

Re: Scenario, what would you do?
Depends on how wide the road was. If i could stay right while peddle boy could pass on my left then probably pass him. To thin a road probably wait.
May also have not gave a shit about him and passed on a thin road. That would depend on how may pissed me off before him.
Had one today heading up over a rail bridge she was half way up by the time i caught up and no way i could see what was coming other direction. She had a cute arse so i was more than happy to wait before passing.

Re: Scenario, what would you do?
The cyclists are in the wrong because they're riding bicycles on a public road having not paid road fund license and therefore have no right to be there and anything that happens to them is their own fault. Futhermore they were wearing lycra and only racers wear lycra so they were racing on a public highway which is illegal and so they had it coming to them. And in the previous town they jumped a red light and I had to drive extra fast so that I could abuse them as I drove past then as an extra punishment I overtook really close and fast then swerved into the curb and brake checked them so they knew they were in the wrong.

Re: Scenario, what would you do?
Yep, you've described most of my cycle rides.....however whilst motorcycling to Norfolk with my brother, we were treated to some high level car driver twattery that nearly took my brother out and narrowly missed me as well. So, as a keen cyclist, I don't feel so persecuted at the moment. Anyone on two wheels is fair game it seemsPirahna wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 9:32 pm The cyclists are in the wrong because they're riding bicycles on a public road having not paid road fund license and therefore have no right to be there and anything that happens to them is their own fault. Re: Scenario, what would you do?
Not having a pop at you Taipan it was funny but that's the problem, people de-humanise other road users far too easily,
- that's not someone's son slowing you down its a lycra clad cnut,
- that's not someone's Dad filtering its another cnutting biker jumping the queue
so drivers don't think twice about carving them up.
*Drivers* are impatient, self entitled cnuts who need to think about what they are doing, and how they'd feel if someone had total disregard for their kid, mum, dad, whatever.
Sorry rant over

Re: Scenario, what would you do?
Until they park. And become a pedestrian / cyclist / motorcyclist ... Then they're perfect
Even bland can be a type of character
Re: Scenario, what would you do?
I'll rephrase that
*90% of the human race* are impatient, self entitled cnuts who need to think about what they are doing
Obviously I'm perfect all the time

I think it was Chris Boardman that said "only when motorists see cyclists as people, rather than objects to get past at all costs, will the road be safer" .
