I wonder how much of a hit online dating has made to pubs?
When I were a lad (misty eyed jumpers etc.) the pubs and clubs were the main cop off zones and I reckon will have suffered a bit due to that change also.

Changing behavioural patterns and social media etc are probably the big nails in the coffin. The young folk where I work (some of whom are stoooodents) just don't go out and get pissed like people used to.

I think it's much more the fact it's £5-7 a pint now. You buy a round for you and 2 mates and it's £20.
You grab a burger, that's £17, oh you want fries, £4 more.
You're now nearly £50 in and you've got not a lot to show for it.

You can buy bottles of whatever beer/ale for £2 a go instead.

And you don't have to be surrounded by irritating pricks (other than your wives)

I like a beer out most weekends on a cycle ride, but it's less and less common now

Tesco are probably as big a factor as anything yeah - you don't even see off licences any more! Supermarket booze has undercut everyone.

Bargain Booze - yeah OK, but they general sell cheap/rubbish stuff.

£3 a pint isn't exactly setting the world on fire though is it?.

I can get Hobgoblin gold or Ruby for about £1.50 for a 500ml bottle.

But does your Hobgoblin come out of a machine?! 8-)

Just about to order two kegs (Lowenbrau - remember that? and Spaten - nice) for £60. Free delivery, so I'm up on shoe leather already. That's 12 litres or 25.3 pints to be pedantic. Bear in mind I get £5 of credit to spend on more beer by returning the kegs for free, so there's another tenner.
My poor maths works that out to under two a quid for a nice pint. Maybe no good if you prefer ales, as the system is aimed at lager-type beers (plus one cider - Orchard Pig. Not my bag), but bloody hell, it pours really nicely and keeps fresh. Not that that's much of an issue in my house.

Worrying thing is, I took four empty kegs to my local Yodel shop today, they were only purchased a couple of weeks ago. Not wonder my weight is creeping up.

McEwans Champion, it's got a bit of strength but that's not the point. It's got a good flavour.

Oh yeah, 'fish and six' + free batter bits.

(If you weren't so flush you could get 'fish and four'. Mind you, you could get 5lb of spuds for a bob. :D Cod and chips must be about £11 in a chippy now - it seems to be £17-18 in a pub. Them were days when you could get penny bun for tuppence etc. ).
