Cetirizine is also supposed to be non drowsy. But Piriton will be 'drowsy'.

Even bland can be a type of character

Cetirizine, Acrivastine, Benadryl all make me drowsey. Piriton, I literally cannot keep my eyes open.

Re: Les moustiques - les connards
I tried Piriton to see if it reduced my reaction to bites. It seemed to have no effect at all - on me or the bites! I tried antihistamine cream on bites and it seemed to make them worse. One thing that did work (that I saw on Death in Paradise) was pile ointment! (But it does make you smell a bit odd ). The other thing that I use on bites now is MooGoo cream for sensitive skin/psoriasis. Provided you get the stuff on ASAP when you notice the bite and redo every 24h it's (Funny thing with bites for me is they seem to reach peak itchiness on a 24h cycle).

I don't think I could sleep with it 'on' me (well, on my face!) but also there's nowhere to hook it up todemographic wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 10:01 pm Mosquito net?
Saves huge amounts of lives in Africa anyway.
Not sure I'll get away with the big candles here!Jody wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 2:37 pm In my experience the ONLY thing that stops them "a bit" is the large yellow candles. Not the poxxy little ones ( I've literally seen a mosquito land on the edge of one of them). You need the ones that are 5-6 inches across in a terracotta (?) pot with a thick wick. But they are not 100% effective.
Those blue light bug zappers just attract bugs from further away, so they actually make the problem worse!
Other than that, use good quality bite cream from the pharmacy to take away the itching.
I've got a cold cream and a rollyon thing that seems to work on the bites to make them a smidge less annoying. Just still kinda want them to stop biting me!!

As suggested previously, in peak biting season I take a preemptive antihistamine every morning (usually supermarket brand Loratadine), so that I don't react as badly, when I inevitably get chomped on.

I'm going to see if I can work out a way to stay at home. I'm less tired from the course and will probably function better if I stay home, sleep better (lack of bites and much less hot!) and also eat better - can't keep food here as no fridge and trying to eat cheap, so it's not ideal. Next week someone living in the valley is driving in at the same time as me, so I'll see if I can get a lift with him and see how it goes. I reckon the travel time will be less bad than the other issues of staying (now I have half a brain back!)

Command hooks are great cos they're strong, but not permanent, so you can just take them off again like they were never thereNoggin wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 4:12 amNot sure I should stick things to walls? Maybe here it wouldn't matter

Re: Les moustiques - les connards
Aaah, I get it. I think I'm going to try and just ride (or drive, need a conversation with my winter boss to borrow a vehicle, less tiring than riding, especially if the weather is bad!) each day. I'm bored of not being able to eat properly, especially when my freezer is full of food!! And I'm REALLY fed up with bastard mozzies!!Sunny wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 7:31 amCommand hooks are great cos they're strong, but not permanent, so you can just take them off again like they were never thereNoggin wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 4:12 amNot sure I should stick things to walls? Re: Les moustiques - les connards
Not sure if you saw my earlier post, but mosquito coils are effective in my experience. This link gives details of their history and use:
https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2013/ ... ito-coils/
If you're buying them make sure to get the dark green ones as shown in the photo. There seem to be a lot of coils that look like cardboard and are about as effective. Lifesystems is a make to avoid.

Trouble with the coils is that they will release some smoke I guess. Not sure I can risk that in a hotel with a very visible smoke alarm! (And it's bastard hot with no air con )
But they do look awesome
I will add them to the list for another time - and will probably avoid staying in Chambery again until it gets less hot and mosquito filled!!

Re: Les moustiques - les connards
Yeah, they do emit smoke. Not a great lot, but probably enough to set off an alarm...
