Who is best for semi industrial use?? I dont want Makita as they are turning out to be a pish brand having burnt out two drills so slowly moving away from them. I was thinking Milwaukee but there must be 101 versions of the drills They have a Milwaukee combi set at toolstation with £60 off but unsure if all the batteries are compatible with the Fuel range of tools. https://www.toolstation.com/milwaukee-m ... &gclsrc=ds

Few of the lads I work with have Milwaukee Fuel drills, solidly built and much better than the stuff they were making a decade or more ago.
Generally loads of power but I don't know the model numbers.

I've een using Hitachi/Hikoki for a decade or more and been very happy with them but as with almost every make, they have a cheapo range as well.

I must be unlucky. Light use my drill lasted probably 18month and as soon as i started to take it to work hammer drilling into walls killed it in weeks. Bought another and its been used quite a lot but Sunday i killed it drilling into 3mm chassis steel with a new sharp drill bit. Ill go look at the Fuel range rather than the cheap deal drills as i have no great use for the impact driver as i have a Makita one what is still running well, surprisingly

I've had my Makita for years but it's only DIY. Everyday work depends on what you've already got but starting from scratch l'd say Festool or DeWalt. Have a look on websites to see what different manufactures offer and is aimed at your particular trade needs.

I am mostly gardening but when doing fencing i am drilling posts into walls quite a bit. A lot of them old concrete posts in this area. Most folk just want them left but use them as wooden fence support as they are to tight to buy posts. Think i said last Makita only lasted 6 month so sod it. Probably paid to much but got sick of looking at various sites for deals. Think these batteries ate around 160 alone.

I use Makita and Bosch. Both have been reliable so far, both do the job, but I actually think the Bosch has the edge - it’s noticeably better on hammer setting drilling into brick or concrete, has a great screwdriver torque limiting feature, and works well as a drill into steel. The Makita has been solid but not outstanding. I have a couple of Makita impact driver s as well again competent but not outstanding, and a grinder which has been really good so far. Milwaukee are doing some great deals at the moment, so good it makes me wonder if they have dropped the quality a little?

Or trying to be more competitive as they were stupidly expensive. Makita i have a 1000Nm rattle gun. Impact driver, Grinder, Jigsaw, tyre inflator what are all working great. Its just the Drills that seem to have an issue, or the last two i bought. I also have two 580Nm Chinese Makita copy rattle guns what have lasted longer than my drills. One gets used quite a lot as well.

If you're drilling into masonry you're much better off using an SDS drill.
Combi drills do it at a pinch ut they're slow and the noise lets you know they dont like it.

I have all Makita lxt stuff. I don't know any trades that don't use it tbh but I don't work on building sites. I had a kitchen and a bathroom fitted and some new fencing in recent years, all the trades that came in had Makita stuff. My s-in-l does groundwork and is often making up shuttering etc and his firm uses Makita.

We often have trades on site for maintenance stuff and it used to be all DeWalt but I notice that you rarely see DeWalt anymore, its normally all Makita with a few Milwaukees coming in lately. When i watch car repair videos, especially American stuff, I notice a lot of them use Milwaukee kit in workshops, so are they more automotive based?

Night and day. Milwaukee sounds and feels better quality and more powerful. The 5Ah battery's last longer than my Makita 5Ah did. Rapid charger is nice but should have looked closer to the settings and the new Milwaukee does not have a screwdriver setting. No drama juts put it to number one and slow down when the screw is almost home. Oh and the battery does not slow down when dying. It runs at full power until exhausted.
