Reading between the lines I'm not convinced it has the 'right' engine in. It says what the original had and that it has GP3 parts/components. Talks about the frame a lot and says something about the engine number is unseen or something.

Probably be bought, stuck in a collection and never run again anyway

TBF at MotoGP level, particularly with a factory team, any one combination of engine, frame, bodywork, wheels etc wouldn't have stayed together for very long. The concept of a 'matching numbers' bike is a bit meaningless.

I didn't get on with my TL either. Too small for my long legs and too effing fast for my reasonably congested commute. Sold it for a 750 monster which was too slow!

I rode mine way too fast on the road, tracked it, hill climbed it and bloody loved it - even more so without the stupid bastard steering damper

True, it's an opinion The only bike I've ever had more fun on / enjoyed more was the KTM 390 Duke, but for different reasons!

But I do know more that dislike the TLs than like it - although most are from IL4 backgrounds

I loved the little KTM 390, had a quick blast on weeksys I think. What I enjoy most about riding a bike is ragging it to the max. It's why I prefer the older GSXR750 or early FireBlades because I ran out of the ability to use any more performance.

That's wide open throttle, max rpm, top gear. It always amazes me when I used to ask people what the bike was like under those conditions and they'd be like "oh I haven't had it flat out yet".

On the other hand, I once tried that on a tricked out GSXR Thou, at the Nurburgring. Never mid the constant wheelspin and threat of highsides unless you were really careful on the throttle. The thing nearly spat me off when it suddenly wheelied - flat out in top!

Fuck that! I wouldn't trust myself on a machine like that, not on a track but especially on the road.

Coming back to the TL1000S, the machine would run out of ability long before I would. The brakes weren't up to par, the handling was pretty terrible in extremis (it would tank slap if you were just looking at a bump) and the engine characteristics were all wrong for the chassis. Cheap finish, ugly looker.

Apart from that it was sort of ok I suppose.

That one claims to have an R1 shock.

I did a bit of digging and it's a popular mod.

Remember the TLS has a two part rear suspension system. A rotary damper and a separate 'Spring On A Stick' (SOAS they call it on all the forums)

You take an 99-06 R1 shock, take the spring off it and replace the standard rotary damper with it using a special bracket (you can make or buy from sellers on Ebay). You keep the standard 'spring on a stick'.

Needs must, when the devil rides, but who comes up with this stuff, who decided one day to try and fit a springless R1 damper to his bike?

Horrible they are not. There's nothing wrong with the chassis, it's the 'door closer' shock that's the problem. That and the fact that Suzuki let the bike out with a 190/50 rear tyre that made it steer like a tank. Stick a 180/55 and 5.5" rear rim and it steers very nicely.

But it did have a good engine; at least the early models did before Suzuki de-tuned them.
