Beeline Moto II, the new upgraded version
I like the simplicity of these but not the price. Does this make them more appealing?

Re: Beeline Moto II, the new upgraded version
The new interface looks quite a bit better than the old one and would be a big help with lots of junctions. My MK1 is fine in rural areas but if I was in the city I'd be looking at a MK2 or android auto

Re: Beeline Moto II, the new upgraded version
I was a great exponent of the original BeeLine - it did all I wanted it to do. Then I went to Mid Wales with it. And just when I really need navigation it failed to connect with my phone - odd, because it does that via BlueTooth.
Tried a full reset - seemed to sort it. Until I was going through B'ham on the M6 when it lost connection.
With two days left on the warranty it went back - and was eventually replaced. I wanted a refund from Sportsbikeshop but they refused.
As I had no navigation for my next trip ( it took 4 weeks to sort out) - the new one has had little testing but:
1) It still has the really annoying habit of freezing if you stop along the way for 5 or so minutes ( and it auto stops, waiting for you start again). You have to physically press the start button.
2) For a simple bit of kit, it can be remarkably slow at junctions
3) It stays charged forever - but navigation eats your phone battery
I would love to have like it - it will stay as I didn't get a refund, but the interface is way too shonky when I needed it. Beeline II basically does all I want - but with having to use their navigation system, and no ability to tie it to say google maps , then it is a no from me. It also doesn't give you live traffic - so I guess that makes paying for a full fat Garmin seem worthwhile

Re: Beeline Moto II, the new upgraded version
I've heard reports that it's a battery saving feature in Android that powers bluetooth connections down when data isn't being transferred so if you lose data connection this might trigger it thus dropping connection. If it happens mainly in rural areas then something with checking maybe...

Re: Beeline Moto II, the new upgraded version
I used my mk 1 for the first time in 18 months to go somewhere beyond the wall in east London - I put in a particular shop and it took me there no problem.
The screen is a bit small so I’ve finally got round to buying a mounting bar so it’s in my eyeline (sort of).
I like the battery life but the map interface is a little fiddly.
There was a way to import gpx files but that seems to have been stopped.

Ah I use ridewithgps.com to plan routes, it has Google maps layers in there and you can export gpx

Plan in Google MyMaps and you can export files. I think they're KML/KMZ but I'm sure there's an online converter to GPX somewhere.

Re: Beeline Moto II, the new upgraded version
Generally, I like the Beeline mark one. As mentioned, you need to disable power saving mode for the app. However, I've had had instances of a lost connection. On long trips I seem to get better results if I break the trip up into several chunks. Not only for connectivity, but also because Beeline doesn't distinguish between turn directions and added waypoints, so you won't necessarily know if you've reached a waypoint, unless you make it an end point.
I had an issue, also, with an uploaded route that someone else had created. Not sure why.
It works well most of the time, and it's still my preferred satnav for the bike.

Re: Beeline Moto II, the new upgraded version
Luckily for me, Triumph have provided a rather shonky and none-to-easy-to-use satnav function via their 'MY TRIUMPH' app, so I have no need of an after market one.

Re: Beeline Moto II, the new upgraded version
I don't use my Mark 1 a lot,but it has behaved itself on the odd occasion I do use it. I like the basic simplicity which is why I didn't buy a proper satnag
Sometimes when a simple thing becomes more complex it may be less useful. They need to be careful they don't end up competing directly with a proper satnav, that would lose them the fight.

@Scootabout - how do you disable power saving mode in the app? I cannot find any options to do so!Scootabout wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 10:42 pm Generally, I like the Beeline mark one. Look in the app or battery settings of the phone settings rather than in the app itself*
*Not got the device or app (well the wife has) but that's where you usually mess about with battery settings on android.

It seems a funny concept to me.
Obviously personal choice but I like to see the road layout around me rather than just an arrow. I’d never choose this over a conventional sat nav.

What does it offer that my £70 Android phone can't do?

Nothing, functionality-wise. Convenience - different matter. Easy mounting/removal. Transfer easily to other bikes or your pushbike. Waterproof, shockproof.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 8:38 am What does it offer that my £70 Android phone can't do?
But then there's the whole less-is-more thing. Oh never mind
