Before my wife bought a horrible gas BBQ, I used to buy the bags you lit from B&M.

A single bag was just the right size for the BBQ we had at the time and you just lit the bag and the charcoal always caught without needing any other combustion source.

I only use https://bigkproducts.co.uk/products/chilla-grilla/ , normally get through a couple of bags a year.
It might not be the best, it might not be the cheapest, but it contains no instant light chemicals or bags, but more importantly for me its consistent.

I use a large Weber starter chimney for each cook, cook for 30 - 50 minutes, shut the BBQ down, and be able to get a good couple of handfuls of unburnt out of it the next week to start the next BBQ.

Use https://log-barn.co.uk/ to start the coals up.

I use Briquettes for anything low n' slow 'cause I find they last longer. Lump wood for direct heat burgers, sausages etc. cause it's hotter. The instant light bags of lump wood when we're out camping using the portable.

Starter chimney to get it going, a million times easier than any method other than the light-the-bag.

So, all three :D

Used to use charcoal or briquettes but after watching a BBQ chef cook over seasoned wood, that's what I use and the food tastes better.

Big K Marabu Restaurant Grade lump wood
EBC even burning restaurant grade charcoal.

Both seem good

Because we have an ample supply, we....I use walnut twigs and small branches and discarded shells.
Only issue is that it burns hotter than the sun and you have to have a ready supply because it goes like detcord, doesn't smoulder like charcoal!
However all the food has a wood smoked flavour, whether you want it or not!
