Searched ours a while and couldn't find any rust. Well impressed for 6 years old.

Re: New car or second hand?
Some UK ones did have bad rust duep to crap paint from the factory. Climates like yours just don't promote corrosion, one of the things I love about sunny parts of the world is the amount of old motors about.
I fitted a towbar on an unregistered Shogun that was very rusty underneath from sitting in a storage yard for a year. If I was buying it, I'd have rejected it on the spot.

Re: New car or second hand?
The rusty dusters were white MK1 RHD ones which didn't have the rust prevention treatment applied to them. Coupled to this the paint was much thinner than it should have been so within 6 months rusty spots appeared on rear doors, tailgate and in the engine bay.
By MK1 I mean the first version of the modern era not the 80(?)'s one

Re: New car or second hand?
I've never actually had a new car! (Only one new bike and that was only cos KTM were selling 'last years' 390's silly cheap )
I guess I'll have to see if there are any decent 2-3 year old ones available when I'm looking or if there are any decent offers on new around that time (Dacia currently have an offer on, but it finishes at the end of August!!)
Interestingly, when I looked at the Fabia the actual new price was about 24k, but when I searched availability, that price dropped quite a bit (best being a while one for 21k) so I get preregistered or something. Downside is the nearest was 5.5 hours away!! LOL
Anyway. Really appreciate all the comments. No idea what I'll actually get/end up with, but want a half decent basic model that will last a few years and still have a reasonable value when/if I want to change for a Transit
