It is very very common. Same with any competition that involves humans training animals - very competitive humans quite often don't have the patience to put the time in to train properly so resort to fear.

It's very sad and frustrating. But equally, a lot of owners are cruel without really meaning to be (as in the first bit of my friend's post). So, it's not just competition :( :(

I'll be honest, listening to most of my married (or partnered) mates, both male and female, I'm not overly keen to go that route even if the option did ever come around!

Do you think they’re having them arrive in small boats just to wind us up? :D

Got to be one of the worst opening ceremonies ever!!

Still think London 2012 was an extremely difficult OC to follow?

Paris sees all the different countries marching in during the Olympics Opening Ceremonies, thinks it's an invasion, and immediately surrenders...

Watched some of the OC and thought that, even though it was stitched together for TV, it was all a bit ho hum/tedious (to be fair, apart from London, they all are).

The segue from the Bacofoil person with the flag on a mechanical hoss on the river to a Bacofoil person on a real hoss at the Eiffel was hilarious. Then making the Bacofoil person walk for what felt like 20 minutes was switch-off time.

However, my main thought was how rubbish it must have been for the actual spectators - and teams. Should've used a stadium.

Now, on with the real show.

Beijing was good too TBF, in that mass choreographed sort of way. ISTR it was raining then too and all the wide shots were prerecorded backups?

But yeah, London was the best IMO, mostly cause of the healthy dose of British irreverence :D

For anyone that didn't see it. The highlight of the OC. :D

I sat down to watch the opening ceremony last night but I realised it nearly 8 at night and it was probably closed by now...

Opening ceremonies are usually quite cringey, but entertaining enough, this one was poor, I think this is a more that fair appraisal of last nights 'show'.

1st medal for GB, brilliant bronze for the 3m synchro dive.

Aussies had a terrible final dive, they were in 3rd for most of the rounds.

You'd imagine they'd be great at going down under...

The women's cycling looks like a hybrid sport with ice skating. :(

Wet cobbles on a bend do not a grippy surface make.

I just caught a few seconds of the opening and it looked like a freak show!

Was that some sort of fucked up version of the last supper?

What the fuck has that got to do with olympic sport? Bearded ladies belong in the circus... :angry-cussingblack:

Convicted rapist Van de Velde booed on Olympic debut

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/ar ... d9e0r2dxmo

Convicted child rapist Steven van de Velde made his Olympic beach volleyball debut to a mixed reaction in Paris, with audible boos.

Van de Velde was sentenced to four years in prison in 2016 after admitting three counts of rape against a 12-year-old British girl.

It's the MTB XC racing shortly.

Evie Richards for the Brits, but a strong French duo and a Dutch will make it tough for her.
