Not too old small car questions/advice?

Just go for the dashboard of your choice. I like radio and heating knobs, can adjust without looking kind of thing.

Don't get a new Tesla, indicators on the steering wheel so when turning off a roundabout or summot like, you ain't got a clue where the switch is.

Definitely won't have the budget for a Tesla!! LOL And living on top of a cold mountain with no where to plug it in isn't ideal!!

I'm a bit like you, I do think that a shitty dashboard would totally put me off!! LOL

I like volume for the radio on the steering wheel or a stalk by there cos I can't reach very easily to the knobby thingy on the radio in the centre

And I do so hate those huge screens in the dash nowadays

Sadly no. It's not that I can't reach it, it's the amount of movement needed - mostly to drive up the mountain and down! Lots and lots of gear changes to get up here. I can drive a manual, it just gets uncomfortable. I mostly steer with one hand, but I can do either do steering or repetitive gear changes, both would be too much . If I was going to work in resort and only drive it occasionally on days off, I might go for a manual (despite the probability that the arm will get worse in time) but I'll have to drive down around 6 times a week in the winter - then drive a bus! So I do have to be that awful word, Sensible

Fabia with a DSG box?

Is the correct answer, I have a non dsg Fabia and it's been bulletproof, the missus has a Scala, with the slightly bigger version of my engine and a 7 speed DSG and it's great to drive.

Looking like I might have to up the budget somewhat Or get a car a bit older than I wanted to Hey ho

Have to see what's left after the apartment sale.

Sadly most vehicles are too much new! So will have to trawl around dealers to see if I can find something a couple of years old! And do some test drives!!

For now I have the Toyota Corolla, Dacia Sandero and Kia Picanto to test

But if I can find a Civic or a.n.other that works for a sensible price and not too old, I'll go try them too!


I think between cars being quite a bit more expensive here, and my budget being less than most, it might be an interesting effort!

I would avoid any car that was one of the first DSG models, I've seen a lot of complaints from owners of those early adopter cars. It mainly seemed to be higher powered cars but not always.

Mini? I have a F56 model, 2.0 cooper s (the non 'S' cooper is a 1.5) which uses the zf gearbox found in other BMW's, it's a peach.

I 'downgraded' to the mini from a Jag XFS. Day to day, the mini is just brilliant, don't miss the size/ fuel consumption or power of the Jag. Really enjoying driving it, and it's saving me money as well.

I'd LOVE a soft top version!! But soft top or Cooper, 2.0 diesel - top end of 'possible' budget and 2017!!!

Not sure I want something that old, just because I'm so restricted on mechanical things and don't want to have to account for breakdowns for a couple of years (well, I will, but don't want to expect them!!)
