I was really surprised one patch hit so many things TBH...or rather, how many seemingly unrelated companies/services use the same IT.

It’s no surprise really. There’s only two cloud server platform providers, MS Azure and AWS. They’re aren’t that many security software providers that are designed for huge systems either.

I spent a long weekend in Gothenburg. I have no idea what Swedish money looks like, nowhere took cash, so I didn't take any out of the ATM.

It usually is fiiine almost all of the time but it's a really buggeration when it's not.

My habits probably got started and honed when I used to travel with both spawn when they were much younger. I surprised many a woman with my ability to cope with two small children unaccompanied by their mother.

I was in Scandawegia 5 or 10 years ago, the supermarket checkouts didn't handle cash you just chucked in a hopper. They'd done away with small coinage too, 10whatsits was the smallest.

Having had a relatively small business and had to pay those 1.5-2% charges it adds up pretty fast.

And it's passed on the the customer, 5 quid plus for a coffee.......

I used to work with a guy who claimed he always had £1000 in cash about his person "in case a deal popped up".

Before covid times I usually had 800 odd quid in my sky rocket, post covid it's down to 200

About 8DKK to the pound last time I was in Denmark (got family over there).

Fun fact...supposedly the shop Flying Tiger (formerly just "tiger") gets its name from a pun. Ti is "ten" in Danish and Ger is like "quid". So Tiger just means "10 kroner". Poundland basically

That's what my Danish relies say anyway. You have to say it in a Danish accent really, which is basically the same as pretending you're pissed.

I think the supermarket I went to was in Luleå. One of the things I bought was falukorv, like spam but forrin. The people I was staying with looked aghast when I told them what I was buying. It was for a friend who used to live there for a while.

round these parts the small independents are the least likely to take cash Loads and loads of shops are card only, normally driven off an iPad.

I was really surprised and a bit shocked when in Weymouth in April that, when we stopped for a coffee and a cake, they wouldn't take cash!!

Given the costs of taking cards, I can only think that they don't have enough faith/trust in their staff to allow them to handle actual money??!!!

Cash is very expensive to process. Security vans get robbed, insurance is high, too easy to lose, counterfeits, etc. Gone are the 'cash is king' days. Cash is now a royal pain in the arse. Third parties like iZettle have pushed the price of card transactions right down.

And of course, nobody condones tax avoidance, right?

We both draw out 1,000€ a month for spends. Easy to keep an eye on.

Big purchases on card. Then only 6 or 7 transactions on bank statement.

I'm being T-in-C of course, but seriously, given all that's wrong in London in terms of knife crime, burglary, brazen thefts of people's phones in Oxford Street, and some goons repeated over-painting of a mural gets this much PR?
