I'd be investing in a can of AeroKroil... I work on 80yo stuff & the perfectly fine rose joints are original.

The guy did say it was quite common for them to seize.
Mind you, he also said they've been getting a lot of broken gearboxes recently too, so I'm happy with a seized rose joint tbh.

I took the Pads out on my TRX when they decided to lock up. Managed to do this with my keys (pulling out the R clip )
Sensible riding home was no problem as the engine braking is the equivalent or better than the rear brakes. Though it's very tempting to touch the front lever.

In August 1999 I went to a solar eclipse party/festival in Hungary on my VFR750 and on the way back the Reg/Rec decided to throw a hissy fit and start charging at 17v, boiling the battery dry. After realising what the problem was, and refilling the battery with distilled water, the rear brake torque arm then decided to fracture, leaving me not only with no rear brake, but fearful of the consequences if I even so much as touched the rear brake.
I think I jury-rigged some kind of arrangement with cable ties such that it was almost impossible to use the rear brake and rode from Austria back to the UK trying to force my right foot not to go anywhere near the rear brake pedal.

In fairness, dodgy Reg/Recs are a well known failure point on VFRs of that era. I've had 3 go on me. And the rear brake torque arm failure was due to a non-standard rear wheel fitment that went wrong.
