Worth a punt?

Post by KungFooBob »

Should I make a cheeky offer on this.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116241403020

1. Is it a ticking time bomb?
2. The seat has been modified for a smidget, would a proper seat cost more than the bike?
3. It's a hand grenade, right?

I've got a strange urge to buy a CCM R30, but this appeared with the search results for half the money.

I'm thinking a £1500 offer, if it's rejected it was never meant to be,

I bid a grand on a 1960's Francis Barnet Falcon 200 last week and got outbid and the wife was telling me to up it.

I'm a teeny bit pissed at the moment, so I should review this thread in the morning.

Do you want it? Would you be happy with it and ride it if your offer was accepted? Would you rather have the CCM? Can you afford a CCM?

I owned a Duke II for nearly 2 years. I didn't have any issues with mine, but mine was brand new. I swapped it for a 625SMC and whilst the SMC was more SM I think in hindsight I should of stuck with the Duke. It was more fun, with more torque lower down. For a while I lived in St Albans and had to ride under the arches of St Albans old Goal and it sounded glorious through there, bet the neighbours loved it. Mine had G Force cans and the performance Y piece and it was mighty loud.

Other people had loads of issues with LC4s but my Duke and SMC were great

You're a braver man than I am, Gunga Din! :D

Seriously, that is the original cement mixer engine. Vibey enough to blur your vision at certain revs. Everyone mocked my rotax engined CCM and convinced me I needed one of them, so I changed to an LC4. Worse decision ever. Horrible, horrible bike with rust forming on the spokes and every bit of chrome and fastner. The vibes even broke wires from their connectors. Made my CCM seem as smooth as silk too. For the life of me I never understood what people liked about KTMs of that era! :wtf:

Possibly easier just pushing it into the river from a bridge.

You're all v negative.

This one has lasted 21 years, that makes it almost unique. (Or Trigger's broom).

I wouldn't fancy it tbh, not really sure what it would be good at, apart from inducing anxiety if you needed to rely on it as transport.

Yeah, I think I'll go back to looking at R30's. The later ones have nice reliable Suzuki air cooled motors.

Maybe 21 years of fruitlessly trying to fix it. :(

Never buy a bike with ohlins stickers on it, when it clearly doesn't sport said product.
Says a lot about the mindset of the owner.
Iirc thats the jackhammer motor.
Left foot kicker, weak sprag, dubious clutch bearing, 21 years of being ham-fistedly wheelied everywhere! Doubt the headstock is still round.
Whats not to like!

Also got this 0n my watch list. There's a stolen recovered one with no locks and bits missing along with hefty panel damage for £1550 making this one a bargain.

You should buy it.

Just ad a look at R30 prices! Might also be worth looking at XT660Xs?
