Just push the cork into the bottle with the handle of a spoon, no need for the breaking the neck stuff. This washed whatever they put in washing powder to whiten clothes in to the wine which gave us extremely sore throats for the next day. I may or may not have ended up with a slightly blue rotollo one day having decided that a new tea towel would be the wisest option for cooking it in...

You can still see the scar running down the side of my hand and along the fold in my hand after more than 30 years. I pushed the cork in and the neck exploded. It cut the muscle in my hand in half, cut an artery or two in half (don't recall which ones) and cut the tendons to my little finger in half. Two 3 hour operations and months of recovery had it back in use. Wine bottles aren't made of safety glass.

I thought everyone knew the shoe technique, there are dozens of videos on YouTube about it.

I think this is a record!
Just under 60mpg on this morning's commute... In a car that weighs 5004lb (according to the app).

Re: utterly random picture thread.
In 2010 when I moved back to the UK they gave me a great big Merc as a company car, I didn't know about benefits in kind or whatever nonsense the government call it to tax the crap out of you for having the audacity to have a company motor, and it ended up costing me more than I felt was reasonable, so I gave it back and asked for something more sensible, which turned out to be an Audi A1 Sportline, and it did 73mpg and cost me about £60 a month in tax.
I still resented the tax, but 73mpg was pretty decent....until my wife crashed it with less than 100 miles on the clock

This is a Volvo S90, the Volvo competitor to the 5er and the E class.
It's fucking massive with the poverty spec D4 engine. The gear box does clever things to help with the mpg, but it shoots up massively when the weather is warm.

I once got 73mpg out of my enormous great German saloon with all the bells and whistles

I can get late 60's on the motorway.
I don't go on the motorway for my commute.

Re: utterly random picture thread.
The hybrid shopping trolley indicates 70.1mpg over 5k miles.
All the others I've 'measured' in fill-ups/month although I think my LWB petrol Landy did about 17mpg.

Re: utterly random picture thread.
TBF that 73mpg was in a German diesel car, so it was probably lying through its teeth and chucking a few back handers to the European Comission to boot.

Re: utterly random picture thread.
So that mpg figure was for running-in miles?
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.
