I've posted it before, but for me this column has pretty good nail/head interfaces.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... republican
This bit stood out:
... people caught rough sleeping can be imprisoned or fined up to £2,500 if they are deemed to constitute a “nuisance” or cause “damage”. According to article 61 of the bill, “damage” includes smelling bad. It’s hard to know where to begin with this. If someone had £2,500 to spare, they wouldn’t be on the streets. The government is proposing to provide prison cells for rough sleepers, but not homes. Perhaps most importantly, people are being blamed and criminalised for their own destitution, which in many cases will have been caused by government policy.
There is similar sentiment in project 2025, the one Trump is attempting to distance from himself.

I wonder who appointed that judge?

ZRX61 wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2024 3:03 pm Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump nominee to the bench
Ah yes.
She's been stalling this and doing weird shit since she was assigned the case. Trump's wet dream.
The kicker here is that her reason for dismissing the case is bullshit. Special councils have been approved by the SC repeatedly.
Smith will appeal to the 11th circuit and likely win. Then it will get dragged to the SC where there's no telling what will happen. Several of the Justices are living deep in the pockets of wealthy Americans.

Yes, LOLz, very articulate:
“I’m a ‘Never Trump’ guy,”
“My god, what an idiot.”
“Mr. Trump is unfit for our nation’s highest office.”
“I can’t stomach Trump,”
“I think that he’s noxious and is leading the white working class to a very dark place.”
“I think there’s a chance, if I feel like Trump has a really good chance of winning, that I might have to hold my nose and vote for Hillary Clinton.”
"Idiot if you voted for him"
"Cultural heroin"
And my personal favorite, drum roll
"might be America's Hitler"

The Republican party is littered with weather vanes.

Umm, no, Biden did no such thing. Maybe you should reconsider where you obtain your "facts."
Under 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7), "[m]ajor Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates," as identified by the Secretary of Homeland Security, are eligible for Secret Service protection.

Title 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7) authorizes the U.S. Secret Service to provide protection for major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates:

Protection is authorized by the DHS Secretary after consultation with the Congressional Advisory Committee;
The Congressional Advisory Committee includes: Speaker of the House, House Minority Leader, Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader, and one additional member selected by the others;

Protection under these guidelines should only be granted within one year prior to the general election. Protection more than one year prior to the general election should only be granted in extraordinary, case by case circumstances in consultation with the committee, based on threat assessment and other factors.
Criteria have been established to assist the DHS Secretary and the advisory committee in their decision making (as of 2017).

When determining whether a candidate for the Office of President or Vice President of the United States qualifies as a major candidate, the Secretary has broad discretion and may consider a variety of factors. These factors include, but are not limited to:

Whether the candidate has publicly announced his or her candidacy and has filed the appropriate documentation with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and is in compliance with the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended, and related laws;
Whether the candidate is actively campaigning on a national basis for the office for which his or her candidacy has been announced, as demonstrated by operating a national campaign apparatus, regularly appearing at public events in multiple states, producing and publishing campaign advertisements, and other similar indicia of a campaign;
A threat assessment conducted by the Secret Service of general or specific threats directed towards the candidate (for these purposes, “threats” should be defined as explicit threats of bodily harm to the candidate or indications of inappropriate behavior towards the candidate suggesting potential bodily harm);
]Whether, during and within an active and competitive major party primary, the most recent average of established national polls, as reflected by the Real Clear Politics National Average or similar mechanism, the candidate is polling at 15% or more for 30 consecutive days;
Whether the candidate is the formal or de facto nominee of a major party for President or Vice President;
Whether the candidate is an independent or third-party candidate for President polling at 20% or more of the Real Clear Politics National Average for 30 consecutive days;
linkypoo

Do note that the group making the determination is bipartisan.

All rather rich considering you had the temerity to claim I had no idea about taxes. N.B. I've been running a small business for the last 3 decades.* Yeah, I know a wee bit about tax policy.

*successfully, without a massive handout from daddy, without bankruptcy, unlike Trump Airlines, Trump steaks, Trump U, and several Trump owned casinos - never stiffed a supplier - no investigations for tax fraud or other nefarious behavior - just one random audit that was passed with flying colors - all of my tax ducks were in nice neat little rows - no lawyers, no accountants, just lil ol' me, two years of documentation assembled by yours truly, and the agent doing the audit.

I always thought Trump would easily walk back into the Whitehouse but after surviving the assassination attempt, it looks like team Trump will be doing the conga into there!

Trump, 78, was still the favourite with British-based betting company William Hill ahead of his rally in Butler yesterday.
Donald Trump is emerging as the clear favourite to retake the White House after surviving a botched assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, a leading bookmaker has revealed.
The 45th President's odds stood at 8/15, giving him a 65.2 per cent chance of winning on November 5.
Trump’s odds were slashed to just 4/11, representing a 73.3 per cent chance of victory for the ex-President.

I still find it baffling that a 78 and 81 year old are the answer to the countries President question. I mean really.

I think it was in a James Bond book - something like 'Nations age like humans, they pass through infancy, maturity and senility. America missed out the middle bit'.

Seems they're doing the last bit literally.

It's not just those two. The Kennedy candidate is a fruit loop too.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
But certainty is an absurd one

Age does bring wisdom and experience of living history with it, or should do. I'd not want someone under 50 in the top job. Should there be a cut off point of eligibility? Probably...

But it's a fairly physical job at times you'd expect and quite intense, so i'd want someone younger myself.

Major, Blair, Cameron, Truss and Sunak were all in their 40's when they took office, and with the exception of Blair, who, like Starmer, was handed the job on a plate, were all a bit shit.

Clinton was what? 42?

He's best remembered for getting a blow job from an intern. It's not a legacy to be proud of.

You have to be 35+ to run for POTUS but there is no upper limit. Baffling.

JFK didn't even make it to 50 and he's fairly well remembered, not just for one reason either!

Wow. The guy truly is an ignorant bellend.

This is reason no. 1,556 why a trump win would be bad for us as a country... they consider us enemies rather than allies, negating hundreds of years of friendship and careful diplomacy.

I said 8 years ago: Donald and Hillary, are these the best a nation of some 350 million can come up with?
I said something similar 4 years ago.
There are probably somewhere in the region of 200 million to 250 million who are eligible and the best candidates America can produce are Trump, Clinton and Biden. :roll:

Biden has been a useless fuck his entire 50 year career, now he's telling us what he's "going to do"

A lot of people are saying that now! Whatever is behind this shooting, it backfired in more ways than one. People are actually having the photo below tattooed on themselves now. :crazy: I suspect its also hanging on every republicans house wall and every gun clubs hall...
