I think it's because said couple of malevolent psychos happened to be bikers, and therefore landed on VD etc, and chose that location to be offended by the opinionated denizens therein, of whom there were plenty to choose from...

Early days of the internetz also meant they hadn't grown a thick skin 😆

And have any of those psychos folloed from VD to the Rve Counter and here?
Linked In - me but I hate the place it is full of vacuous ego driven robots lying about just how fucking brilliant they are, whilst being forced by their employers to post 4 threads a month.
Facebook - me . But now not a huge amount of traffic other that bike brand stuff.
Insta - not me and I don't really know how to use it. And inhabited by "influencers"
Twitter: Jesus - it's the most self obsessed, self entitled, hogwash ever.

Is this a good point to mention threats of harm to me and my family?

That particular person is no longer on here (at least, not under the same name) and, a long while later, apologised - having apparently forgotten doing it. He denied it, so I sent him the PM. He was, then, known for drink and drugs, with threats while under the influence (I heard later).

I'm not sure my issue was malevolent in the exact meaning, but certainly some posts I'd put on FB last winter were used against me in a way to cause the most damage/hurt (innocuous posts, nothing huge but useful to the wrong person). I was surprised and Really hurt TBH as said person I thought was a friend. And that made me even more wary about people up here, French and English (the person was French). I'd have been far less hurt if they'd been an english friends as I'm really not sure I have that many english friends up here, but had always thought that the French were less back stabbing :(

So, I post less and less on FB or Insta.

Had a bad moment on here a few days ago, but was cleared up by admin very early one morning (including a reply that I probably shouldn't have posted - best thing is not to respond I guess!), so hopefully nothing more will come of that.

I would be devastated to lose the security of chatting with my weird internet friends on here - you guys have been the thread that's kept me going!!

I have a FB account in my real name but it has no friends or pictures and I don't post on any groups or pages, it is purely used for contacting companies as sometimes that's the easiest route to get a response.
I have a 2nd FB account with a false name which I join groups and pages I am interested in but I have no contact with people on it.
Typing my full name into google only links me to 192.com, my email addy has 0 results on google.

The one I referred to is deffo here, albeit seems only to lurk in one area in particular. From others' posts on this thread it sounds like another one is too. Unless it's the same one... 😆

I use 'Skub' in forums more out of habit than anything and my actual name on faceplant,or music platforms. I communicate with some from here on f/b,so it wouldn't be a giant leap to join the dots. I've never had bother on any format, but I know it happens. I don't do a pile of arguing on teh interwebz, that's not why I use it. Maybe that's the key...

Since reading a bit about net privacy in (I think) New Scientist yonks ago I've been pretty careful.
I used to have a Facebook account in my real name but bombed Facebook off os I realised just how bloody odd people can be after too much Shandy Bass.
In order to retain any respect for/from my friends I fucked the platform off.

Everything else under a pseudonym. Email addy, Google account, the lot.
I'm not that fussed when you lot turn odd /boastfull after a beer/line of coke as almost all of you only exist on a screen for me.

I seriously doubt anyone on here could affect my work as its all based on my skills and not my amazing tact and diplomacy talents but theres a few who I just can't be arsed with having at anything other than arms length.

How the fuck can you use a fake name on LinkedIn?

Real name on LinkedIn. Work stuff- but do a bit of me me me.

Here: now back to docca. sDF was because a psychologist at work got stabbed after being internet stalked and we were all advised to be careful. Now back to docca, so stab away 😀

Never had threats to work. I don’t think. I’ve been invited for a dust up by a couple of people but that never came to anything (I’m pleased - I’m no fighter)

Facebook- locked down to fuck but real name. If you’re on my FB, you’ll see I have very gentle activity there.

Instagram: I have an account but don’t use it

X: I used to like Twitter for work (and only work) but since Musk has turned it into a bin fire, I’m very rarely on there.

I like many of you here. I don’t know most of you- but your pixels have been a part of my life off and on for decades. Funny, really.

Not big on flame wars nowadays. Largely because I’m too old and mature, but also because I’m just too busy with actual work. Plus, fuck you twats. : x

What was your name on VD. LMAO at some of your provocative stuff. It was up there with Chopstick Jim and Dirytbill. Glad you kept living though. FAF back then!

Jesus, that sort of shit makes me want to step away from the forum. I really dislike that kind of negativity and would certainly not be around it IRL. I've had to remind myself of what a bunch of good eggs there are on here and how many charitable things have been done collectively by this crowd on the various forum brandings we've gathered on. I guess its inevitable there will be clashes at times though, but maybe people need to remember its just virtual on here and just leave threads that are causing them angst.
