Make use of our recently acquired yacht skipper tickets - probably charter a few times before looking at purchasing a floaty money pit. Ideally I'd like to take a chunk of time off work and sail to somewhere pleasant and warm.

Wife has her PADI scuba ticket so keeps nagging on about a dive holiday, but means I'd have to qualify in the cold murky UK waters before we go.....

Perfect opportunity to fly somewhere warm to learn

I qualified in the murky depths of a man-made lake some years ago. I figured I would get the PADI Open Water here, rather than take up holiday time (when I say holiday time, I mean splitting my time between my two loves: Mrs. G and beer, of course) when we got there.
I hindsight, learning in the clear, warm waters of the Indian Ocean would have been the wiser choice.

Yeah, that's my view - don't want to spend a week of my holibobs learning at a dive school (even though just done 10 days intensive at a sail school!)

Apparently not, go the America, pick a jump school that offers it, pay your money, take your chances, not a million miles different from paying for a low orbit flight with Branson or whoever, just cheaper

One of my mates (worked for Safran designing landing gear for airbus) was backpacking around S America with his fiancée, FG was on their list. Had a looksee at the rocket launch site, his fiancée explained to security in her best Spanish who he worked for, next minute, armed guards and a landie rocked up, they were put in the back and imagined the fate that awaited them.
Ended up in mission control watching a live launch!
1 million man points there and then!

Isn't a 'bucket list' things to do before you kick the bucket? ie the things you might regret not doing when you're on your death bed?

Not sure holidays and stuff like that feature on my list. My main regret is likely to be not living longer.

(I would have liked to have lived in some other places for a year or so each inc. Istanbul, Tokyo and a few others. Bit late to change career now though ).

I've would like to see things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

My 'things to do' list is mostly about visiting countries. I find new places, food and cultures endlessly interesting, and try to go somewhere new on every holiday.

In each country on my seemingly endless list I have things I'd like to see and do - like cross the Denmark to Sweden bridge, for example.

I used the 'Countries Been' app recently to tot up where I've been so far - 34 countries so far (I find it annoying that places like Madeira aren't considered countries in their own right ).

I'll be adding number 35 later this month, and hopefully number 36 by the end of the year.

That said, I've tired somewhat of new countries. I always think, ohhh, this will be really good, perfect beaches, much cheapness. And it turns out to be open sewers, many mosquitos and constant beggars / street grifters. Again.


Maybe Raja Ampat will be better. Although it's not a new country, it's Indonesia again.

Two things come immediately to mind, a trip on the vomit comet and spending some time in an anechoic chamber.

The former is a question of money, c£10-15K, the latter is finding one who'll let paying punters use it.

I started making a list when I thought nothing would ever get better!! No I think I might actually to do some of them!! LOL

I want to see the Niagra Falls (or another hugely impressive waterfall!) and some of a rainforest

Learn to windsurf and to scuba dive. I've been told I can't windsurf but a mate teaches in the uk and he is sure he can teach me

I'd like to go to Iceland, go inside a volcano, see beaches/sea like the Maldives (soooo white and blue and clear and with 'huts'/rooms out on poles over the water!)

Learn to paraglide (again, the negative people say it's not possible, just need to find a teacher that can help me make adjustments!!)

But mostly, go back on track - REALLY want to go back to Portimao again, I know I'll be slower, but I just want to do it

When I was doing the written multiple choice bit of the Open Water course I watched the other guy who was doing it mark sooo many wrong answers, close to half. His score was higher than mine...

TBH all I currently really want to do before I did is retire with enough money to live on, but work may be getting a bit much of late.
