Re: 2024 General Election
Labour’s Karl Turner, who is standing for re-election in Hull East:
In Hull East, less than half of the electorate went to the ballot box in 2019 – and, here and elsewhere, the party fears being caught out by political apathy
Even during a general election campaign with projections of historic – even unprecedented – results, people cannot always be relied upon to give their full attention.
“We met a guy who said he was going to vote Labour but wouldn’t now because he had just heard that we were taxing condoms,” said Labour’s Karl Turner, who was first voted in as the MP for Hull East in 2010 and is standing for re-election this time.
“I said, ‘condoms?’ ‘Yeah,’ he said: ‘I just heard on that [pointing to the TV] that you are taxing condoms, and I’m not having it. You’re not getting my vote.’ It was Terence [Turner’s parliamentary assistant] here who worked it out.
“‘We’re taxing non-doms, not condoms,’ I said. ‘Oh,’ he said. ‘Like the prime minister’s wife? Ah.’ He calls out: ‘Margaret: they’re taxing non-doms, not condoms.’”

Re: 2024 General Election
In the old Margaret Thatcher days, some anti-Community Charge activists were door-knocking in a high rise block of flats in Aberdeen, to get their message out and garner support.
An old man opened his door to the combat-jacketed socialist youngsters and asked them their business.
Student: “We’re fighting against the poll tax.”
Resident: “I didnae ken we were bothered wi’ polecats roond here!”

And once you'd identified all the ways it could go wrong and implemented an idiot proof procedure, management went and hired a better idiot.

Two months after I retired, I was asked back to do some specific tasks
But usually, the graveyards are full of irreplaceable people.

Re: 2024 General Election
So only 3 days after the election and we've not only got rid of the Tories, the England football team are through to the semis and Sir Lewis Hamilton has just won his 9th British GP.
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.

They didn’t exactly ask me back, but they asked me to do some work. I refused, in a nice (I think) way.

We might be on the verge of a HUGE SCANDAL. Suspicions have been raised that Reform have fielded election candidates that aren’t real people. Is there any evidence that Mark Matlock (candidate for Clapham & Brixton Hill) actually exists? He looks AI generated
