Miss Appelby, maths. I rememember one of the "lads" dropping his pen as walked by, in order to look up her skirt....she just stood there, staring at him.

The £ is up 0.01% against the Euro though and 0.1% against the dollar, we're saved! Good old Keir, never doubted him.

Ask yourself why the GE result, when it's already in the bag anyway, would shift exchange rates. What's changed in the market?

Yeah, this outcome was effectively priced into the markets weeks if not months ago. Basically, nothing has changed, move along.

Lads, Paisley Junior got the boot last night. His replacement is Jim Allister who stands for TUV who have links to Reform. He's worth a listen for the sheer comedy value. People actually voted for him because he said the EU were going to ban Smoky Bacon crisps. I shit you not.

Well that's the reason the companies have spent a shit load of money changing their recipes / formulations etc. it's because they are banning certain smoke flavours

I kno nurthing about the technical aspects. But if similar, it's why I've not bought 'smoked' bacon for years.

In general, there may be an elevated risk of harmful effects when consuming genotoxic substances. However, the likelihood of these effects emerging depends on various factors, including an individual’s genetics and dietary habits. The chance that such harmful effects would occur as a result of consumption of foods flavoured with smoke flavourings has not been investigated by EFSA. However, it is worth noting that EFSA takes a conservative approach to its assessments, meaning that we consider worst-case scenarios to estimate hazards and risks.

Ironic as smoking is a traditional method of preservation- bacon, German sausages, salamis, hams , cheese etc.
Whilst smoke flavours can cause carcinogenic effects if consumed in huge amounts - nobody consumes anything like that amount.
Eating Smokey Bacon crisps is not going to damage you health.
The way that the favour industry gets past this is by using naturally smoked food - paprika , salt, ham rind etc which are regarded as traditional foodstuffs and can be used. And contains exactly the same carcinogens.

Oddly the EU are not banning those, or fish smokeries, or smoked garlic, or barbecues - or smoking.
How odd

No contradiction if the 'smoked' bacon has never seen the inside of a smokehouse but, instead, was doused in chemicals.

Things like polyaromatic hydrocarbons have low acute toxicity. ie you'd have to have a lot to be immediately ill. Repeated/frequent exposure is associated with carcinogenic responses. So, like many things, the less you are exposed, the lower the chances of developing a range of cancers. Probably particularly important wrt kids and junk food like crisps (and that's ignoring the fat and salt). They're not likely to eat smoked salmon and smoked bacon every day. :D

What about the poor buggers who work in the smokey bacon crisp factory? :(

Presumably they risk ODing on bacon flavour.

They shouldn’t be eating the stock.

Many years ago (for irie, who likes these things quantified, this was probably very early 1980s), Bike magazine gave away scratch'n'sniff cards.

Which smelt of burnt rubber.

Apparently the factory stunk for weeks :D

Change begins now.

It sounds like the first thing is the migrants to Rwanda scheme is axed.

What a great election result, for the young, for inclusion, the environment and the future.
