Exactly: i was opening a discussion.
It's an interesting concept, having an opinion about something versus doing something about it.

Re: Who Will You Vote For?
I'm genuinely interested in how and why you, and possibly others, would spend so much time and effort expressing so much vitriol about the national situation, and then, when you get an, admittedly miniscule, opportunity to do something to adjust the status quo, you completely ignore it.irie wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 9:39 amNonsense.Rockburner wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 9:24 amExactly: i was opening a discussion.

Ok I tend to drift along the sidelines of these political discussions, but it seems odd to me that someone with so much to contribute to the discussions isn't going to contribute to the real thing.
It seems to me that voter apathy is something that has contributed to the current clusterfuck, so why would you contribute to that?

Well that's just bound to ruin it, then. Probably no point at all in trying to move the date...

Delay might work for the Procrastination Society, but since they merged with the Prevaricators there's no chance of getting confirmation.

To the contrary, in the current situation making a conscious decision not to cast a vote is indeed a valid action intended change the "status quo". Not miniscule if/when large numbers of the electorate make the same decision. Which I think will probably be the case.Rockburner wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 10:13 am ... when you get an, admittedly miniscule, opportunity to do something to adjust the status quo, you completely ignore it.

I disagree completely, how does that change the status quo at all?irie wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 11:36 amTo the contrary, in the current situation making a conscious decision not to cast a vote is indeed a valid action intended change the "status quo". All it does is tell whatever party that gets into power that they've got carte-blanche to do whatever they like because no-one is going to stop them. It says the non-voters can't be arsed to take an interest so the politicians can be as corrupt as they want and there will be no repercussions.
I simply don't understand how anyone can think that's a good idea.

Re: Who Will You Vote For?
It's worth remembering people that under FPTP we only have the illusion of Democracy... Here is a full list of all the European countries that still use FPTP rather than proportional representation...
-Belarus
-United Kingdom
Two kleptocracies controlled by the Oligarchy... Oh what joy!
So as much as I want the Tories out, if I continue to support the FPTP system just by voting tactically, then I can't really complain that they don't abolish FPTP can I...
I shall be fucking glad when this is all over tomorrow, and we can go on living being told what to do, how to act, who not to upset, and how much poorer I am every single year as a result of governmental economists lying through their teeth about real world inflation and interest rates all whilst ignoring fiscal drag, rather than enjoying the illusion that I can make a difference at all even for a single day!

Me please!
The false hope that my vote matters or that anyone will actually make any meaningful change to the status quo is eating me up inside!

Re: Who Will You Vote For?
Yep...go vote and the bandwagon continues. Bouncing from one to the other, based on bullshit. Nothing will ever change.
Massive no vote 50% + puts massive pressure for system change. Never happen though.
