Weird screws on light!! Help

Post by Noggin »

In my friends shop she has a blue fly killing light thingy

It was taken down for cleaning and now the ‘screws’ that hold the bottom piece on don’t!

It looks like they should slot in and be tightened up - but, one side doesn’t turn and the other side spins

Wondering if anyone knows what sort of fittings they are and what we can do to make them work!!

Not great pics, but the stem of the fitting from inside and the ‘slot/hole’ they go into (middle one!) - the outside looks like a flathead screw!

The shape suggests it may be a push coupling and any screws that have been removed hold the fitting that's pushed into.

Any manufacturer details / name on it? Google for images, etc

Contact them for spares.

Looks like a push fit thing. The receiver is pop rivted onto the body and the sticky out bit just shoves in

For £500 plus expenses, I'll come set fire to the shop, making the issue moot.

KFB hasn't raised his fee in ages. Catch him while he's cheap (and hot...)

She did say that it should just push in, but it doesn't hold :( :( And cos it's the base, it kinda has to!

I'll ask her for the make/model (was there this morning but it was busy so didn't get to ask about the light!)

Thanx tho - I wasn't going mad when I figured something was wrong!! LOL

Nut looks like it should be an interference fit in the base and held in place by the serrations, the hole in the base has become too large to retain it through wear and tear.

Nothing a dollop of epoxy won't fix.

I think there should be a spring in the hole, like a hair clip with a wider gap. The bulbous end slides through the middle of the spring which closes behind it and holds it in place, if this has been dislodged it won't hold.
