Same here,it's not a very productive time of the year,Le Tour is one of the highlights of summer  :D .

Stage 1 then brings

Image

3800m of vertical, that's more than your Cavendish etc are going to cope with in terms of winning i think

It's got Van der Poel or Pidcock written all over it i think. I'd say Wout van Aert but i'm not sure he'll come back from injury at 100%

Just realised it's not going to finish in Paris (for the first time) but quite a long way from there. Finishes with a time trial from Monaco to Nice I think. That'll be a bit odd and a bit of an anticlimax.

Out of interest i'm just watching a new Sky Documentary about Greg Lemond, it's quite interesting actually, worth a look.

It's also why it's starting at the end of June instead of the traditional July start.

I saw a load of signs today as I went to Chambery - so I might see what the weather is like and have a wander over on Monday - although it's flat, so I'm not sure I'll see much as they whizz past!! LOL

Stage 1 today then. I'm just back from a ride and will settle in for the afternoon with some bacon sarnies.

Bit of a beast for day 1. Nice to see another area. (I've hiked into and out of Emilia Romagna. Nice fortress and there's a big 'solar oven' research place near there).

Edit: Doh! I was mixing up Emiglia Romagna and Font Romeu for some reason. (I have hiked across E R though on a hilltop towns trek).

I've not watched a cycle race since last years TDF,sort of fell out of love with cycle racing but as it's Le Tour I thought I'd watch today's race, maybe watch a few stage,if nothing else the scenery's usually stunnings. After watching that opening stage I'm hooked again.I ended up out of my seat & shouting at the television
