Re: Glastonbury
I thought the aerial shots were interesting.
Mahoosive car parks and lots of space at the Pyramid stage. I guess the headline acts are what the TV puts on whereas the punters are watching the other stuff.
It all seems a bit 'corporate event' now. You can imagine companies gifting tickets to politicians - 'Do you want Glasto or Glyndebourne VIP passes?'.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition.

Re: Glastonbury
Yep, properly bad.
I was hoping that it was poor, the bands were poor just because I was watching on TV, the sound is rubbish. But it may be more to do with the bands being a bit crap live?

Re: Glastonbury
I've been there a couple of times,it was one of the highlights of summer back in the day,but in the mid 90's it went a bit 'corporate',then it became a 'must do' bucket list gig. Over the years they've had some fantastic bands play there & as the BBC gave it excellent coverage you could watch some excellent sets from the comfort of your living room,so I had no intention of going again, just watched it on the television.
Maybe they're looking to entertain a different audiance, but Glastonbury 2024 holds no appeal to me,I'd have been gutted had I bought a ticket for that line up,This time I won't even watch it from the comfort of my living room..

Re: Glastonbury
Very few of the people I know that go over the last 15 years go for the headliners/pyramid stage - they go for the atmostphere* and the smaller gigs/stages/areas!
*I don't understand the atmosphere - I worked there a couple of times in the late 80's and everytime I went to walk around on my breaks EVERYONE was really tall and going in the other direction!! Ok, I know they weren't, but that's how it felt!! LOL
We lived at the edge of the site for quite a while so could pretty much hear it anyway: one of the big memories of my childhood was in a previous house on top of a hill near there and my Dad sitting in the garden on a clear night listening to one of the big bands of the day - late 70s/early 80s!!
My only good memory of Pilton Pop Festival was the Sunday afternoons - back when locals got in free on Sunday afternoon and there were some awesome bands on the big stage. TBF, I've never paid to go in and have zero interest - but a lot of my friends seem to love it!

Re: Glastonbury
My wife said the different audience thing and that it was for youngsters. I said to look closely at the audience when the camera turns round, it was full of middle aged couples.Bustaspoke wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2024 9:09 am I've been there a couple of times,it was one of the highlights of summer back in the day,but in the mid 90's it went a bit 'corporate',then it became a 'must do' bucket list gig. Many of the acts looked like they didn't want to be there, I wonder if their diversity targets should take some of the blame.

Currently watching the Paul Heaton session on iPlayer. Jacqui Abbott not being with him is a big miss though. Hasn’t quite gelled with her replacement.

Re: Glastonbury
When I went,I got the impression that it was populated by a large percentage of posh middle class 6th former/students & teachers types plus a few drug dealers, probably those middle aged middle class types you now see when the camera does it's panning the crowd thing. It was a different far more earthy crowd at Reading ..Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2024 11:25 am Is it still a hive of scum and villains where anything left in your tent gets stolen, assuming your tent hasn't been stolen?

Re: Glastonbury
I think that was the early 90s when the rave scene was kicking off and crims were moving into the E supply market. It's gone a lot more corporate and middle-class friendly since then. Also the site is heavily fortified and ticket prices dissuade those without the means to pay.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2024 11:25 am Is it still a hive of scum and villains where anything left in your tent gets stolen, assuming your tent hasn't been stolen?
T went for 3 consecutive years in the mid 80s (1984/85/86) and it was still a basically friendly, slightly anarchic festival. 1985 was a total mudbath though. I was finding Glasto mud in my car and belongings months after the event. Looking back, I'm surprised I went back in 1986.

Yes. Now 'owned' by the uk propaganda machine, aunty Beeb and her minions, in preparation for future Beeb minions. Very middle class affair for Tamsin and Pippa et al. Re: Glastonbury
Back in the days when I worked, usually got lumbered with the glasto grind, and the ball shrinking pain of a drive from Shepton down that stupid road off the roundabout, through a sea of fuckwits dragging trailers full of tents/beer/ girlfriends with the wrong shoes!
Used to do it twice on Thursday and once or possibly twice on monday. Get there and have DVSA waiting for you!
Never got a tip, and the responsibility of carrying 100+ tickets, trying to load the lockers up with kit that would do several trips up Everest, explaining to the numbnuts on board that, 'no you can't smoke, or drink alcohol'..........quite glad I gave that shit up
