The last few times I've worn a tie were for funerals! As a younger man I often wore a suit and tie for work and enjoyed being super smart, but not any more. TBH If I never had to wear long trousers and shoes again i'd be happy.

Re: Do you, have you, will you ever... wear Crocs?
Covid has helped with relaxing the attitudes towards work attire in my industry. Used to be suits and double cuff shirts as a minimum. Negative comments if your suit didn't have four cuff buttons and wasn't double-vented. If your shirt had a pocket on it you'd be told not to wear it again or even the pocket would be ripped off (usually after a few pints). When grads passed their professional exams they were given a £1,500 clothing bonus.
As for Crocs, they're awesome for mooching around in, going shopping etc.

I havent been into any of our business sites (or met a colleague f2f for work purposes) for 5 years now and counting. As a business we have become progressively more disparate, so the likelihood of meeting warm bodies becomes further unlikely, its just not necessary. We've even ditched a lot of sites, they were largely empty.
Back on the thread. In that time, I've only worn a suit for a graduation (not my own). But I've worn my crocs a lot!

I've only worn shorts and sandals 8 years. Only wear jeans on the bike.
Bare foot around the house and short dog walks at night.

That business with the double vents bugs me. I know it's supposed to be more difficult tailoring to make but you have to be the right shape to wear a bum-flap jacket. A decent length single vent jacket can make a wearer look slimmer/taller. A double-breasted jacket with a bum-flap can make you look 'boxy' like a cornflake packet.Beancounter wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 11:07 amCovid has helped with relaxing the attitudes towards work attire in my industry. 4 cuff buttons? Someone once made the comment that 'the Conservative Party has lost a button off the cuff'. ie gone down in class.
If the buttons overlap slightly they're called 'kissing buttons' and, to be flash you should wear the bottom one undone to show that the buttons/buttonholes are real. If they unbutton it's called a 'working cuff'. IIRC surgeons ie on board ship had 'em so they could roll their jacket sleeves up to keep them out of the gore.
Shirt pockets are supposed to be for the likes of clerks to keep their pencils in.

You're nobody unless you have functioning buttons on the cuffs of your trousers. A overhigh stovepipe hat and a big cigar also help.

Don't forget studs, and detachable collars. Not simply black shoes, Oxford, Derby, it matters a lot.Mr Moofo wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 3:12 pmWait until we get onto cutaway collars, collar bones/ stiffener, to stach or not to starch, ties - knots , patterns , length . I liked Oxfords, Derbies and brogues. And for the last 9 years, black DMs with yellow stitching - just 'cos I was a rebelCousin Jack wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 3:21 pmDon't forget studs, and detachable collars. Re: Do you, have you, will you ever... wear Crocs?
I had some Stephens Brothers shirts (when they were made in Ireland) with removable collar bones. (Still got the bones ).
Now I'm beyond the pale - I have one suit (black) and the jacket has no vent at all.

I only considered it after watching a YouTube video by/about Kent and Haste in that London.Potter wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 4:21 pmI do that out of necessity, the AC in my boardroom (where I spend half my day) is too cold, I dislike anything under 24c but out of respect for others I let them have it colder and I wear my trendy blazer.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 9:58 am
Might join the cool middle aged middle managing mid level types and wear a blazer and jeans
They hate coming to my office because it’s hot.
My office is plush as it gets, but AC is banned in there.
They showed one of their blazers in their blue house tweed, which made me think "I like that"...followed by "but when would i ever wear it" and then "hmm...but maybe....".
Still might
Seems moot now actually, their blue house tweed is no longer available

Follow the German trend - some random suit jacket, jeans, oddly flashy shoes - and no socksPotter wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 4:21 pmI do that out of necessity, the AC in my boardroom (where I spend half my day) is too cold, I dislike anything under 24c but out of respect for others I let them have it colder and I wear my trendy blazer.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 9:58 am

Re: Do you, have you, will you ever... wear Crocs?
In about 1993 I did the Triathlon world championship in Manchester. Camera bike.
We all got big Reebok tracksuits to wear over the bike gear.
Also a pair of the latest Reebok trainers which were about £70 at the time.
When I wore them out and about in Haworth, I had young says saying "cool trainers mate "
I've never been cool, before or after

I'm never gonna say never, I got talking to a another trucker and he swears by them. I have an old pair of shoes I wear when driving cos my steelies are a pain on the close pedals, but I might try crocs when the shoes fall apart.
