Is betting on the election by candidates and MPs another one of those open secrets?

Is it the nob head who bet against himself winning?

Labour candidate suspended after betting against himself
The Gambling Commission launches an investigation into Kevin Craig, who was seeking to become the party's MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich. Meanwhile, Labour is understood to be returning £100,000 that the candidate donated to the party.

Unless this bet was enough to pay out more than the 100k he donated to Labour it doesn't sound like anything other than a bit of fun. Embarassing for Starmer that his candidate has little faith in winning but it's starting to smell like a witch hunt now.

Looks like it is, it's certainly cross party and in Wales too. It's funny watching the SNP being all squeaky clean and honest.

Re: Who Will You Vote For?
Betting is only an issue if an individual is privy to information that other betters and the bookies don't have access to. 'Insider information' if you like. Or if you're in a position to manipulate the odds. Remember the fuss when Farage said, just before the results/exit polls came out, 'It looks like Remain have narrowly won' and was accused of having access to a poll that suggested the opposite and of shorting the pound? That sort of thing. (Which he denied and it was never proven).
Simplest solution is to restrict the bets available on election or referendum matters. eg only bets on the result and the margin. No bets taken in the 2 week period before the vote. Ditto all bets placed on the date of a general election cancelled if placed within, say, a 6 week period before the announced date. It's not a divine right of the gambling industry to offer odds on anything and everything anyway.

Re: Who Will You Vote For?
Have you been getting a shedload of LibDem media in the post? I think they see Chi as a possible win so they're making a good effort.
We've had 1 pamphlet from Labour, and 2 from the Cons: one of which I happened to answer to door to, and I handed it straight back to the deliverer: who seemed a bit nonplussed about it!

Re: Who Will You Vote For?
Been loads of Lib Dem trash, often along the line of "Yes to Jess". And more Lib Dem crap - Ed Davey has a disabled son who he's hawking around the media to try and get sympathy votes.
