Is this another of those "Everyone outside Europe" things?
And now we're outside Europe and realising we're not so special after all...
The European Union ≠ Europe.
The UK is in Europe, it is outside the EU.
Well, at least pedantry is one step up from claiming to be the victim of decisions you voted for so things are looking up.
The road to personal responsibility can sometimes be long and hard eh?
It's simply a matter of geography. The EU is in Europe, It is a large part of Europe but it isn't the whole of Europe. Sometimes people forget that and need to be reminded.

Interestingly, I read today that that the LSE is now larger than the Paris Bourse. But then again, so what? Useless soundbites.
It always was bigger - until 2022. IIRC it was considerably bigger. It's now bigger because Paris has dropped because of the uncertainty around the French election. Uncertainty about the UK election doesn't seem to be such an issue.
'The LSE had been Europe’s largest stock market for many years before November 2022 when it was overtaken.
Analysts at the time blamed LSE’s performance on the fallout from former Prime Minister Liz Truss’ mini-Budget, a weak pound, recession fears and Brexit.'
Meanwhile it appears companies are planning listing in eg New York instead of here while we contemplate listing a Chinese fast fashion company (Shein) that others have swerved (They are being encouraged by our Chancellor).
All is not so rosy at the LSE.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
But certainty is an absurd one.

People might also be surprised to know that not all government work happens inside 10 Downing Street!
Amazing I know, but people need reminding.
Some people might also be surprised to know that people voting for something specific is not the same as other people supposedly enacting that specific thing.
Amazing I know, but some people will never grasp that despite regular reminders. I think that they are the same people that still think "Let's do . . . something" is a promise. Of course, it's possible that English isn't their first language. Or they're thick. Or they are bitter and twisted over the fact that some people had an opinion different to theirs. Whatever.

Also depends on exchange rates used for the comparison ...

Just read that as yet, the biometric doo dabs in France aren't FFP, and unlikely to be by next year.
They've been knocking on about this for several years now, however the majority of brits know nothing about it, and the country that is the single largest entry point into the eu really cba with it.............like we never left isn't it?

I know that the Fronch douane get super finger waggy if you don't immediately present your residency card with your passport on entry/exit.

Some friends that fly out regularly through the winter said that they have to do the biometric/photo thingies from 5th October this year. So maybe it is starting?

Talking of international travel within Europe, do I need a Passport to go to Ireland? I know there is no 'hard border' within Ireland, but I will be going direct from the UK to Eire.
In case anyone doesn't know about ees, here's a link to the EU website. https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ees/gen ... rmation_en After a number of years delay it is intended to start in October but how it's going to work still isn't clear in some places of entry.
