Took a test ride on a BMW r1250rs yesterday as I thought it might tick a few boxes as a practical tourer/working machine but in the end I wasn't convinced (one I spec'd up would have been £14k) & enquired about the price of a new gs1300 with panniers instead - to you sir £26k - say what.....Makes the 2nd hand 23 plate gs1250 on their forecourt at £11.5k a massive bargain

Amuses me when people say Zeros and Energicas are too pricey... they obviously haven't looked at the price of a new bike. That Suzuki 800 V-Strom is over £10k, last time I checked.

It isn't, but that's a CVO so not really comparable to a regular bagger.

I was in an Indian dealer this morning, FTR's run from £12k up to £18k, I wasn't at all put out and thought the prices about right

In the past,I've never subscribed much to the new bike thing,but I can't honestly see me ever buying another new one again. The market is geared for paying monthly,thus the overall price is largely irrelevant.

I've never before been in a position to buy a new bike, just shocked at the figures & how much depreciation there is after relatively little use/age especially when new model is on its way.

When I went to a bike show back in March, I looked at the MT10 - base was about 16k, the posh version was over 20k

So I resigned myself to leaving that on the lotto list

At the weekend a mate was telling that near them there are a couple of pre reg MT10s for 12k Still more than I want to spend on a bike (or a car!!) but seems more reasonable!!

The only new bike I ever bought was a 390 Duke reduced by a lot!! (Can't even remember how much now, lots has happened since then!! LOL)

I don't concentrate on the price now. I look at resale value.
On my 6 brand new GSXR1000s in UK, I only lost £2k on each one in the 2 years I kept them.
But that paid for the full warranty and shiny new bike.

This one has only lost 3k in 5 years as got massive discount on it.

Bike prices have gone up, no denying it. I bought my current bike new at the end of October 6½ years ago. Yes, I got a cracking deal but, all the same, I saw the same bike on similar mileage advertised recently for £300 more than I paid new.

If you shop around there are bargains out there,but if you just walk into a dealers & pay the PCP it's going to be expensive...
I bought a SV650X zero miles but pre reg22 plate with 17 months warranty left to run for £5000.
I've just looked on Autotrader & found a couple of new one's for £5600,probably have to add OTR onto that & a few more between £7500 & £7999,the prices are all over the place...

Sounds about right, £1K a year depreciation, but £12K for a new CB1000R or GSXS1000 feels like a big chunk of change for a bike.

No, buying new with cash, I'm on my forth, if I count the Harley, which I do as it only had 500 miles on it when I bought it.
But then I don't tend to chop and change as much as others, last bike was 13 years old when it got killed, so depreciation etc doesn't really factor in my thinking.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go and have a long think about my next bike.

I have a few more years of looking at second hand values of Ducati V4 Multis before one becomes even remotely in my price range

To be fair the one i already have does everything i want and more so changing isnt on the cards for now

I bought a new NC750X last year because the deal was very good, and new prices are much less than they are in the UK. Plus here, used bikes and cars do not seem to depreciate as fast.

My 1250r is going in for a service on Thursday and the salesman is letting me out on a GS1300.

I'm guessing it'd be £10k to change for my year old bike (not that I'd dare unless I wanted to sleep alongside it in the shed)

I mean you can get an MT 09 for £10k which isn't really that bad. That's a decent bike for the money.
