What bikes are just a lot of fun

No consideration for practicality, tourability and so on. Just something you stick in the garage and drag out when you just want to go out and play. What would you go for? Cheaper the better.

Himalayan was great fun until it fell apart, my little R125 Yam was crazy fun for short periods of time. Most 125 2 stroke trailies are a hoot, ditto any supermoto.

I love my GS on 17 inch wheels and sticky tyres, its just so contrary and it pisses the Touratech wankers off. They're getting very cheap.

Honourable mention to the GPZ500, the four stroke that thinks it's an LC.

In some ways, poor handling adds to the fun

Something like an old R-RT Beemer. Spindly, long travel forks twisting in the yokes (so you could hear the drilled disks humming!), with all of the fairing's weight to contend with. And the bolted-on rear subframe struggling to keep the back wheel on-line. All on bicycle tyres

Depends on your definition of fun.

I have lots of fun on my 500 Bullet EFI, It doesn't handle great or go very fast.

If I wanted 'thrills' I'd probably look at some type of Supermoto, or at the other end of the scale, something with a silly amount of power.

I had a Trumpet 955i (T595) that I used to do trackdays on.
Overweight and ponderous (bike and rider!) but loved riding it.

My (wifes) classic Bonneville is probably the most smiles per mile bike I've owned/ridden...but I couldn't in good conscience recommend it to anyone.

This does it for me. I think a bike only stops being fun when your expectations,or requirements outweigh the actual performance,but if you ride any bike for what it is,you'll enjoy the ride. Having said that,it can also be enjoyable making a bike do what it shouldn't. I had that kind of fun many times on a Honda step-thu.

I've many happy memories from hooning my friend's C90 round his farm yard & tracks when I was a teenager, so one of those unless they've gone the way of fizzies etc. and are now collectable/expensive.

1998/9 R1, just don't expect to keep your license very long.

More sensible options like LCs and Supermotos are available where the fun happens at license keeping speeds.

CB1000R is also a lot of fun, it rides like an LC with 140 bhp.

But most fun bike I've ever ridden is the early R1, it really is mental.

Montesa Cota trials bike. An actual trials bike you can sit on between sections.

They actually do. I remember seeing an ad on Scumtree for a rough one a while back and they wanted north of 2500 quid.

They were only something like £2200 when the Innova replaced them.

Focussing on the "just" part I have a Bluroc Dax 125 clone. This has a manual clutch with a tendency to cause inadvertent wheelies, and, after a few mods to increase the top speed, it will now (un)comfortably reach well over 50 mph which feels ridiculously scary as it darts around in response to anything other than a billiard table flat surface. Not only is it an exciting ride but it also demands much mechanical attention even from new so best avoided if that's not your thing.

Fun because it can be ridden flat out most of the time.

IMHO,the most fun bikes are the one's that can be ridden flat out most of the time,it's one of the reasons that I've grown to love the SV650.
Back in the day I lusted over the early 4XV R1,but I knew it would be a matter of time before I got banned or had a 'incident' so I stayed clear.
