911 Dakar?

Yup. I'd insist on the Rothmans colour scheme on my Scalextric (which I still have, with one of the cars being a gold Porsche...with headlights* ) but driving around in public in? *shudder*.

Edit: * and a Parmalat Brabham with a colour scheme not a million miles off the Rothmans.

I had the gold and silver 911s with headlights! They were great! You could identify exactly at what point they left the track before searching under the sideboard in the pitch black....

Likewise, if perhaps a neighbour was speccing a Dakar I'd insist on that livery... but maybe not if it was a friend in case he took me out in it

Cridfords have a gold 911 body on display in the showroom window (a real one, not Scalextric ). Just the body, no engine, wheels or glass etc. The place looks like a crypto dealer's bedroom.

Thats the problem for me. I see it as bike colours. For me, if its got ot have a colour scheme, a Porsche can only be in martini racing colours. Still wouldn't want one myself, but i'm glad they make one.

Lanzante have a history of converting race cars for the road, they've done quite a few McLaren F1s and P1s.

That's nothing compared to the 911s they do though...they've taken old race used TAG Porsche V6s from F1 cars and put them in 930 shape 911s.

I never used to be a Porsche guy but since buying one and being part of the club (I didn't join, they put me in it when I bought mine (with a gift pack, ceramic plaque with my car chassis number and goody bag) and they've got a brilliant scene and they seem to really look after their customers, so I'm sold.

I've actually binned the idea of a Ferrari now and I'm looking at something nice like a Singer or limited edition 911, I really fancy an S/T or something one-off like a RUF or special build.

Would it though ? For the half a dozen times it gets driven... it'd be a minor inconvenience for sure, but that's about it.

Yeah - you just need a spotter in the right seat .... I'll admit I've not done it for years, but I don't mind.

No it's a pain mate, I've tried one, visibility is crap because the whole road system is based on RHD, no drivethoughs, ticket machines in car parks, all sorts of little things that you normally don't notice but LHD buggers it up.

I've got two LHDs in Dubai and obviously they're perfect because we drive on the right, but for the same reason I wouldn't drive a RHD in Dubai - and you can't anyway, they're illegal.

Every year 100,000s of UK residents drive to France, Spain, Germany etc.

It was a bit of a mare at the French tolls when I had to get out, walk rounds the car etc. but that's it.

I last used a car park in 2010. Drive-thru, lol park and walk in FFS
