Ducati delays choosing who will partner Bagnaia on Factory bike
Like it says in the topic title, Ducati have now said that the decision will come 'after Mugello' and are trying to assert that this was what they had been promising all along. I was pretty sure that Mugello had been set as the hard date when the lucky recipient would be unveiled, but apparently not.

To me it smacks of keeping everybody waiting, because they can. Pushing the decision later into the year means all the other factories/riders have less time to respond and I suspect it's also been done to try and ensure that no satellite teams defect to Yamaha. The longer they can keep teams guessing, the more likely they are to stick with what they know.
But if you've got that grip on the rider and teams market, then it's logical that you try and exploit it, I guess.

They're holding eight aces, they've no need to announce any earlier than they want to.

Fwiw
Full works team Bagnaia/Martin
If Gresini get a 25 bike, MM will stay and I see Bastianini as his team mate, at either Gresini or Pramac (if Gresini don't get a 25)
Hopefully Morbidelli will sling his hook!
Is see #73 on an Aprillia next year

Why wouldn't you ? If you're in a strong position why would you give the advantage to anyone else ?mangocrazy wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 4:34 pm

Wtf would 'defect' to Yamaha ATM?mangocrazy wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 4:34 pm I suspect it's also been done to try and ensure that no satellite teams defect to Yamaha. The longer they can keep teams guessing, the more likely they are to stick with what they know.
The Japanese manufacturers are a spent force until 27, unless something drastic occurs.
Big H spent 10 years developing a bike for 1 rider, and it seems that for some reason* Yamaha can't develop enough power/aero/electrickery to compete.
*I go for engine configuration, weight distribution and frontal aero

Yamaha are reportedly waving large bundles of cash in front of satellite teams and making big promises about factory support. At least Yamaha seem to be making some profgress, unlike Honda. And pretty much everything bar the engines will carry over to 2027 relatively unchanged, so there is still something to play for during the next 2 years.Sadlonelygit wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 8:42 amWtf would 'defect' to Yamaha ATM?mangocrazy wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 4:34 pm I suspect it's also been done to try and ensure that no satellite teams defect to Yamaha. Ooooooooh
No surprise after Aprilias announcement!
What will be interesting is will MM get some 'works' bits for the rest of the year to help reel in JM.
You can bet your mortgage that Pramac won't be getting any significant end of season upgrades this year, apart from maybe a new 'telemetry monitor' upgrade

Yes definitely a sticky one for Ducati. They won't want Martin to bugger off to Aprilia with the No1 plate that's for sure. Given that Ducati currently make up the top 4 in the championship I reckon it'll be bits to everyone but Martin.Sadlonelygit wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 11:37 am Ooooooooh

I really hope so. It would be sad to see him stymied due to politics!Yorick wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 11:53 amYeah. But. Pramac have a lot of clout and just signed up to Ducati again. I wonder how Pecco is feeling about this? I doubt he'd have been delighted to have Jorge as a team mate, but I imagine having a 6 time MotoGP World Champion as your team-mate would give even the most confident rider the heeby-jeebies...

The perils of having the best seat,he had to prove he earned it and needs to keep proving to retain it. Maybe he sees it as more of the same. He has to beat MM and the rest this season and he still has to beat MM and the rest next season.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 5:30 pm I wonder how Pecco is feeling about this? Bet this bloke is happy and nervous at the same time
I wonder if Gigi has been on the phone yet to Lin Jarvis at Yamaha
"Hello mate, do you still have the number of the lot that made your dividing wall in the pit garage and do you know if they do them in red ffs"
