So, horror of horrors, the party you absolutely detest astoundingly manages to achieve a complete, against all odds, landslide election result and are in: Maybe Galloway came through at last, or perhaps Farage will be moving into No 10 (hell, Trump managed to get into the White House and is still looking possible to repeat that, literally anything is possible).

You're absolutely incensed, the UK is going down the drain, so - where are you going to emigrate to before the gates are closed in your face?

The US?, Europe? Oz? NZ? A 3rd world country where you can lord it up with your accumulated booty, dispensing sly handouts on all sides to ensure an easy life?

Me: I'd be tempted by either the South of France: I like the easy pace of life there, and it's easy to visit the UK when needed; or possibly Chile - the other half's brother lives out there so there's people I know and Spanish wouldn't be that hard to learn more of (I'd hope). New Zealand might be nice - but it's completely the other side of the world, at least the culture shock wouldn't be bad.

No where.
I'm happy enough where I am, no political party has ever had any real impact on my life, roads aren't too bad, I can see a GP when I need, low crime area etc etc etc.

I'm going to be taxed and have freedoms curtailed no matter where I live, so better the devil you know

Depends how bad it got, but all things pass. I reckon I could ride out a few years. Might even get motivated enough to work to get 'em hoofed out.

Otherwise, France, possibly the west coast of Ireland or somewhere out of the way here*, close the door, turn off the news and become a hermit.

I would love to live somewhere in the west of the USA, Washington, Oregon or Idaho.

Unless I win the lottery I can't afford it, the medical costs would cripple me. So I will sit tight and wait for sanity to return.

Looking at the avaliable options I reckon England is one of the better ones, I like the place.
Especially the climate and I'm not joking. I like my countryside being green and not that burnt yellow some countries are afflicted with.
Plus after spending a bit of time at my sisters when the lived in Spain I'm not much of a fan of the Brits that end up there.
I've put up with the 14 year shitshow here so I reckon I can cope with whatever else happens over the next few and I genuinely love where I live.

Out of the countries I've been to (not that many) I pick Portugal, based on a weeks holiday in the Algarve about 30 years ago, the weather was nice, the roads were good, the people nice and the scenery was great.
I'm probably better off staying in the UK, as I've feck all experience of living anywhere else, and I doubt if I'll get another £70K job at 57.

I sold up in 2021 and bought the house in Spain in 2022, I don't miss the UK. I've spent three months in Ireland this year, two with the old man when he was taken ill and a month sorting stuff out after he died, I couldn't live there.

There's nothing for me in the UK. I have family I never saw when I lived there, the only person I'm close to is my sister and I see more of her in Ireland and Spain than I ever did in London. I keep in touch with friends and will go back next year for a few days to see them if they don't visit here in the meantime.
