These things are the dogs bollocks, they've worked every time I've used them:

It was the screw heads that were stuck, not the threads. I drilled the heads off then then went to drill a hole in the shank. They both turned in the holes, but there wasn't enough room on the back for the pieces to come through & fall out. They were already loose before I drilled for the doodads, spun right out.

In today's "No good deed..." dept...

Yesterday I drilled out two unnecessary screws on the right/front brake assembly while swapping out the rotors & pads.
Got it back together & went for a test drive... during which I dropped by the dealer for two new screws, because OCD.

This morning I pop the wheel off to fit the screws.. and one of the frigging studs snapped. BUGGERY BOLLOCKS! Oddly it came off half way & then just fell into my hand as I was turning it.
So tightened the other 4 & drove to the dealer for a new lug & stud, because I don't want some Dorman stud made from play-doh.
And I discovered you can't just knock out the stud & press in the new one.. you have to knock it half way out & then cut it in half with the die grinder owing to clearance... (unless you remove & disassemble the hub)
Then you have to put a flat on one side of the new one to get it in.. FFS.

All done & dusted now.

(As in 'why not scrap it and get something that isn't quite such a drain on time/effort/$$s? It sounds like you don't like the car very much anyway).

I like Bangernomics. But the cost to do all of this seems to far outweigh the value of the car

Sometimes it's simpler to spend XXX on the car and keep it going, it's a known-entity, than to spend the same (or a bit more) on swapping to an unknown entity.

I once had an E21 BMW 316, it cost me £600 to buy. (First car I bought with my own money :D )
Ran it for a couple of years and really liked it, but then it failed an MOT on rusty sills.
I was quoted £600 to repair it... so my father persuaded me to scrap it (I got £20 :( ), and buy a frigging VW Beetle for over twice that money.

The Beetle was such a disaster I don't even have a photo of it. I threw it back at them after 2 weeks and got most of my money back.

If I'd kept the BMW it probably would have lasted several more years - there was nothing else wrong with it.

Hell, I'd have one now.

I paid $1 for the SBH, the car is worth around $4000.

Seat covers: $109.14
Tires: $400 (iirc)
Shocks: $279.95
Brakes: $126.73
Headlights: $88.19
Air filter: 14.53

Total: $1018.55

I'm into this car for less than half the value of it, I could sell it tomorrow & easily make $2500 on the deal.


Edit: plus $12 for an OEM stud & lug nut

I've got some of those and had some success with them. These are also brilliant, the harder you turn they more they cut in. I had a sh300 and when i went to do a belt change I found it the crank nut was rounded off. One of these saved the day!
