Spam!

Post by KungFooBob »

Anyone else recently started to receive a number of spammy telephone calls?

Fortunately my phone tells me it's spam from the called Id and I don't bother answering.

I'm getting at least two a day, been happening since the middle of last week.

Had some recently, which is quite unusual on the home phone (ex directory). They seem to be automatically generated so the incoming number is slightly different each time. One lot appeared to originate in Southern Ireland iirc and haven't checked the other.

Unless the number is plumbed into the phone I tend to wait to see if there's a message being left anyway.

It's a bit like -

'How do you know when it's a spam call?'

'Your phone rings'.

Yeah, some have the same dial code and first three digits the same, I assume it's some auto dialer using a pool of numbers.

One day I might actually answer just to see.

I get them in waves... had a load recently from some diesel emissions scam, and they range perhaps 30 times over two weeks, different number each time. Maybe I've blocked them all, but they've come to an end.

Best thing I do with them is tease them a bit. Tell them I'm glad they called and then say I just need to get my paperwork before placing the phone down. On a good day you can hear their sad, scummy little voices going 'Hello? Hello?' for up to 2 or 3 minutes. Sometimes I'll pick it up and tell them I just need another second to find it all, before putting them down again.

I had one of these once and the guy seriously angry with me, and then accused me of wasting his time. Now there was a man who didn't understand irony.
