They implied on TNT that it's lack of a base setting as he arrives at each track. He focuses on a race set up which means when he has to do the 1 fast lap he's struggling. Sounds plausible.Sadlonelygit wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 2:00 pm Apparently he's overtaken 45 places in the last 3 races.
Turning into a bit of a Rossi, only a race bloke, can't ve bothered with qualifying.

Great sprint race, not so great main race but not bad. You can definitely see who the best riders in the world are right now. I'd be very interested in seeing MM on a factory bike with a base setting next year. I've no idea (other than him being a genius) how he keeps managing to come from 13/14th and getting podiums

I would guess no one would see again him if he could actually start on the front row!! Carchedi said that the data for the 23 bikes doesn't work at all for Marc's riding style, hence they're starting from scratch on Fridays.Supermofo wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 2:23 pmThey implied on TNT that it's lack of a base setting as he arrives at each track. I do like seeing MM93 happy after shit filled 3 years.
Having his arm broken and rotated 15 degrees just shows his determination.
I didn't really used to like him, but have really warmed to him lately.

That could be one of the reasons why Honda went off on a developmental dead end. Tailoring a bike to the requirements of someone totally 'out there' in terms of riding style means mere mortals can't ride the thing. Ducati take note.ChrisW wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 6:24 pmCarchedi said that the data for the 23 bikes doesn't work at all for Marc's riding style, hence they're starting from scratch on Fridays.Supermofo wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 2:23 pmThey implied on TNT that it's lack of a base setting as he arrives at each track. Another great ride from 93, can’t wait to see what bike he has next.
Also another clever ride for Martin, no more win it or bin it.

Re: Catalonia MotoGP
That's one one the reasons Ducati is the bike to have in Motogp. It's a bike that can be adjusted to suit a wide variety of riding styles, rather than a bike developed around that one special talent. A mighty cool trick and Gigi is a very smart man.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 9:23 pmThat could be one of the reasons why Honda went off on a developmental dead end. Plus they have input from 8 riders, so they can see what works best for the majority.

Re: Catalonia MotoGP
The Sprint race was mental in the early stages with one corner where everybody in the top 6 changed position ... superb stuff.
The main race was more for the thinkers with tyre wear an issue on the lower grip the track had to offer. Not surprised Pecco won that one but MM showed he can ride round tyre issues as his should have been destroyed working through the pack from another poor qualifying.
Domenicalli has some interesting choices to make in the next couple of weeks as to who gets a red bike and who gets a 2025 bike in another colour. The only certainty seems to be it wont be the Beast or Bez

Re: Catalonia MotoGP
I bet Ducati give the factory seat to MM. They don't seem to like Martin,so if he fails to get the red ride, then he'll go elsewhere just to be a factory rider and won't be as much of a problem.
A factory ride, the money and the prestige seems to be all that matters to some riders.
Marini wanted a factory ride above all else,so takes the no hoper Honda.
Quartararo remains with the no hoper Yamaha for lots of dosh.
It's more understandable with Zarco and Mir,because they didn't have many options,so they took the money, but all of them mouth the same bullshit of 'we believe in the project'. Lordy lord.

Re: Catalonia MotoGP
If it was me, I'd give Enea's bike(s) to Jorge. He's young, fast as, and his best years are ahead of him. MM could be a very divisive figure if he was in the Factory Ducati team and I think Ducati are keen to keep things as calm and non-confrontational as they can between the 4 teams they provide bikes to. He's still as fast as anyone, but he is a couple of years the wrong side of 30.
Give MM a 2025 factory spec bike by all means but run him out of Gresini or Pramac (no chance at VR46, obvs). That means they keep 2 out of 3 contenders under the Ducati umbrella, and Enea has to find another seat. I'm pretty sure he's resigned to that by now.

Re: Catalonia MotoGP
I said the same a while back as Ducati win all round …… the only problem with that scenario is the perception outside that the factory bike goes to the best rider and MM or his management might see the Gresini but on the 2025 bike as a step below.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 10:57 am If it was me, I'd give Enea's bike(s) to Jorge. I agree with Skub MM might get given the Factory seat as his marketing profile is waaaay above Jorge’s at the moment so does he sell more bikes for them ?
Watching the 5 Hondas all scrapping to “not be last” is getting painful though.

Re: Catalonia MotoGP
I'm not sure that individual racers 'sell' Ducatis to punters - I'd say it's the brand itself and its exclusivity and general winningness that does that. If we're talking about merch (t-shirts etc.) then clearly MM is streets ahead of Jorge. That would change somewhat if Jorge became WC though.
How the mighty have fallen. I must admit I'm enjoying the schaudenfreude (sp?) a bit, but don't want to see them quit altogether. That would be seriously bad news.

Re: Catalonia MotoGP
I think Jorge's ego (and talent) demands the factory red bike and associated pay rise.
MM93 just wants a bike he can win on. Wages not too important as he has so much personal sponsorship anyway.

Re: Catalonia MotoGP
The problem with Marc's personal sponsorship is that no less than 5 of his major sponsors are in direct competition with those of the Factory Ducati team. Marc's big 5 are Red Bull, Samsung, Allianz, Oakley and Estrella Galicia. The corresponding Ducati sponsors in direct competition are Monster Energy, Lenovo, UnipolSai, Carrera and Contadi Castaldi.
Marc is very loyal to his sponsors, so that is really going to cause some headaches. Unless Ducati go for Jorge, of course.
