Re: Fury v Usyk?
I'd never under estimate Usyk, so as much as I expect Fury to win, i'd not bet on it. Fury has been training hard and i dont think I've ever seen him so lean. Slight downside to that is Fury has big, heavy but slowish punches. I guess he'll hit quicker now but not as hard? Usyk knows how to get inside the jab of big guys, but Fury is the most awkward bugger to hit. I'm hoping it will be a real good fight, and i think both fighters will be tentative for the first half...
Hell lets go for it, Fury in the latter part of the fight.

I’m sure you did.Potter wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 6:55 amMy prediction was it would go the distance and Usyk win on points. I’ve just woken up late after an unusually late evening and the headline says that happened.
I’ll watch the fight in a bit.
I didn’t think Usyk could knock him out but I did think he could win on points if Fury let it go the distance. He had to stop him, going the distance with someone as technically good as Usyk is an obvious risk of losing on points.
Split decision so there will be a rematch for definite.

Re: Fury v Usyk?
I wouldn't hold my breath though.
Fury's mental state is always the huge elephant in the room, he's been telling everyone he's going to knock out the little guy who as it turned out, nearly knocked him out in the process of beating him. It's not like Usyk is some massive Vitali or Lewis muscle monster either. I hope Fury keeps in a good place and doesn't go off the rails, blowing up to 25 stone and getting off his face.
And what he really needs is to ditch that idiot father and all his hangers on, forget trying to be the "Gypsy King" and put absolutely everything into the final part of his career.
Or Usyk could just retire as undefeated, undisputed CW and HW world champion. It has a nice ring to it.

Re: Fury v Usyk?
Fury didn't seem to understand what he was there for (except the money). He didn't come across as thinking he might have to earn the decision.
All the clowning around was, for me, indicative of a guy who thought it would be really easy and he'd just see Usyk off whenever he wanted. For Fury, the old maxim "an good big'un will usally beat a good little'un" would see him through. But Usyk isn't a world champion for nothing.
When Fury did put the pressure on, in the 6th, he had Usyk going but didn't follow it up. Maybe he still felt he didn't need to pressure his opponent.
I think a rematch would be just for the money as far as Fury is concerned. Knocked out by Wilder, knocked around the ring in the 9th by the little Usyk . . . I think he needs to actually consider hanging his gloves up. If being an undisputed world heavyweight champion is something to clown around for then Fury's mental state is still in question. The judge who gave Fury the decision should also consider if he's in the right job.

Re: Fury v Usyk?
Usyk would do to Fury what he did to Joshua in his rematch and win even more convincingly. He now knows what Fury brings to the fight and barring some movie style reinvention by Fury, Usyk has his number and Fury will know it.Yambo wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 9:33 am Fury didn't seem to understand what he was there for (except the money). Re: Fury v Usyk?
Not seen the fight but my son reckons Fury was winning for the first six rounds? After Usyk hit Fury on the beak he went downhill from that?
I still reckon Fury lost too much weight and lost some of his his punching power. He is one of the most ungainly fighters i've ever seen but he can certainly duck and weave and land those big punches with a lot of weight behind them and his arms are as long as tow ropes. I think he'll be back to reclaim his title and will probably get it too.

Re: Fury v Usyk?
Well, the rematch won't be for the undisputed title, the IBF are stripping Usyk of his belt to let Filip Hrgovic fight Dubois for the belt.
Too many belts and alphabet organisations now, but I read somwhere the Saudis are going to go like Liv for golf and throw so much money at the sport that their title will make all the rest redundant. It has to be better than the current situation where Audley Harrison was technically a world heayweight champion.

Re: Fury v Usyk?
I agree, after watching the final few minutes the ref was out of order. Should have stopped the fight or let Usyk knock him out, he looked pretty much out anyway. Should have either been a win by KO, or TKO.Potter wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 1:02 pmSee I think the other way around, I think now Fury knows how Usyk will play the game then he'll put a camp together to train to deal with him.
But having watched the fight highlights again just I think Usyk was robbed, I don't know why the ref didn't either stop the fight or let Usyk finish him, I get that he gave him a standing ten but it wasn't the right thing IMO, if he was that bad then he should have stopped the fight, or let it go until Fury went down.

Re: Fury v Usyk?
Thought Usyk was on top for all bar 2 rounds possibly. Fury had a little comeback midway, but then was saved by the ropes and bell. Imo, a typical heavyweight fight staged in front of some of the richest folk in the world, in the richest playground. Think Fury was getting 80 million for that.
Thats heavyweight boxing I'm afraid.

Rematch in December. Fury might prepare properly this time.

Re: Fury v Usyk?
Here is my 2 bobs worth. It’s all about money. By all accounts TF picked up £80 million minimum for the fight he lost.
Let’s do it again. TF will win and in doing so picks up another hefty payday.
So it’s one one and we go again for the final decider. TF will win then retire and bank around 250 to 300 million

Fury underestimated Usyk.
Usyk knows how to beat him. He had him on the ropes.
Very open contest

Re: Fury v Usyk?
I don't see them making it to fight day, Fury needs to keep himself in shape until then and he's not exactly known for good living between fights.
Plus his missus is apparently harping on at him to stop so I wouldn't be surprised he has a bit of a meltdown if I'm honest.
Anyway, I still reckon Usyk does him over again, this time even worse than before.
