Insuring overseas riders

Post by Dickyboy »

Expat friend of mine in Malaysia is interested in getting insured on one of my bikes or even being part shares owner so he can ride when over here - has anyone got any experience of this, he's been abroad for 25yrs or so & had UK licence from way back when.

Non UK address seems to make insurance company throw a wobble, or is he better just taking out his own insurance when here? If so who's best to talk to? Thanks

Seems like it's only possible to get short term insurance, so £125 for a week instead of just £35 to add him to my policy for a year 😕

That sucks. A mate just asked me if I'd drive his van from the uk to here and back - would be more than a week :( :(

Couldn't get my sister or BIL insured on our car - Brits but live in Oz. There were no options offered so they had to hire a car - which was no issue

Gonna have a telecon with him tomorrow & wondering if his current insurer can do anything - he has a tiger 1200, duke 1290 & BMW r18b & plenty of experience riding the quite frankly mental roads in Malaysia.

Get him to take over one of your utility bills as part payment for his share in the bike, use it as proof of address ;)
