Marc Marquez or Jorge Martin?
Do Ducati factory want Marquez riding for them next year and possibly Martin riding against them in another factory team?
Or

Tricky question for sure.

Ask me at the end of the season and I might be able to give you an answer.

Re: Marc Marquez or Jorge Martin?
Martin is a great rider, I really wanted him to win last year and think he's probably going to this year. But no one seems to love him. He doesn't get a fraction of the support Marc gets or even Pedro.
On pure riding I'd take Martin right now. But as mentioned Ducati do this to sell bikes and Marc is a much bigger marketing draw.
I do wonder if Ducati went too soon and should have Martin and Marquez in red. But Pecco is Italian and still class so what do I know

It's cos he looks like a wrong 'un.
You wouldn't let him date your daughter, or leave your car unlocked if he was nearby.

Re: Marc Marquez or Jorge Martin?
TBF, if Marquez had qualified closer to the front, then I doubt anyone else would have been on the top step. So, in my really very very uneducated position, I'd expect him to be challenging for the championship - as long as he doesn't crash out!!
(Although he seems to upset people he's chasing to crash, so that's better for him than crashing himself!!)
I'd reckon that if he does end up challenging Jorge, then he'll probably get the top ride ??

Re: Marc Marquez or Jorge Martin?
Do people buy Ducatis based on who is riding one in MotoGP?
ie: has anyone traded in a CBR1000 for a Panigale because Marquez now rides a Ducati?
I suspect the answer is no, I doubt if Marquez riding a Ducati has had any effect on Ducati sales, or on Honda big bike sales, Honda moped sales may have suffered, but Ducati don't sell mopeds, so Honda's sales may still be the same.

Re: Marc Marquez or Jorge Martin?
You need to look outside the UK to see the marketing value. When I was going to Spain a lot motogp riders are like footballers, they advertise everything. Crisps, drinks, fuel, phones etc you'd go into a Supermarket and see a life-sized Marquez cardboard cutout selling this, that or the other. That kinda marketing is big money and Marc is a massive draw. Plus it's not only bikes it's merch too. How many Gresini t shirts/caps in the stands before Marc went there?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 9:22 pm Do people buy Ducatis based on who is riding one in MotoGP?

UK only, yeah I think you're right. But Motogp isn't about us really.

Re: Marc Marquez or Jorge Martin?
Marquez has a far bigger marketing potential, Martin knows this, he even said so (link below). What's more interesting is that if it's Marquez then it's looking like Martin will be riding a Yamaha next year if he stays with Pramac, which leaves Gresini able to field the current World Champion or retain MM. I've got a feeling KTM will come into play somewhere as well.

It's all about us. Without people watching on telly or going to the races it wouldn't exist.

I meant 'us' as in the UK. Not people in general. It's why Spain has 4 races and we struggle to put on 1.

Re: Marc Marquez or Jorge Martin?
Keep Pecco and bring in Martin for seat 2 in the factory team then keep Marquez in Gresini where he seems happy and give him the same bike as Pecco and Martin.
Gigi and the Ducati management are always in and out of the Gresini garages anyway as if it’s their own gaff.
Win, win for Ducati unless they all get over competitive, take each other out and Bez waltzes through and nicks it on an old bike

Re: Marc Marquez or Jorge Martin?
It's a difficult one. The choice will be made long before the end of the season,so the final standings will either prove the right decision,or not,but it won't be a deciding factor. Bastianini won the current factory seat because his early results were great, then he was injured and the wheels fell off the wagon.
At this moment in time it would have to be George Martin,so unless MM starts to dominate very soon it won't be him.
However, there are more factors at work behind the scenes and information not available to Joe Public which will influence the deal.
If all that reads like I don't know, that would be correct.

Re: Marc Marquez or Jorge Martin?
I've no idea but I'm sure that Ducati would much rather a red bike won the riders' championship, so Marquez on a factory bike at Gresini might be a threat to that, have to see how the next few races go. He might yet end up as Bagnaia's team-mate if Martin is too pushy.

Yes was mentioned on TNT, would be a bit embarrassing if the Pramac bike won, but more embarrassing if the year old Gresini bike won. I'm sure Ducati would prefer the red bike to win.ChrisW wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 5:52 pm I've no idea but I'm sure that Ducati would much rather a red bike won the riders' championship, so Marquez on a factory bike at Gresini might be a threat to that, have to see how the next few races go. Re: Marc Marquez or Jorge Martin?
When you consider how many seasons it took Ducati to win after Casey Stoner retired,it's more than a touch ironic that there are now too many competitive Ducati teams in Motogp, but they'd prefer the factory team to be the one doing the winning.
An embarrassment of riches and victims of their own success.
Who'da thunk it.
