Coming to the end of our Italian adventure

Post by Sadlonelygit »

But tomorrow we hit Bologna/Modena/Maranello
Which vehicle museum should we hit?
I have no desire to go traipsing around countless motor museums, I want the best, bosh and done.
Then a bit of culture!

I've trawled the length and breadth of Italy, but not one museum dedicated to the Nissan Figaro. Soz.

Modena is nice. Not much there, really, but a nice feel to it.

Bologna is lovely too. The Ducati museum, if you fancy that, is actually a bit out of town in a place called, wait for it....Borgo Panigale. :D . Never actually made it to the museum, but used to stay in a hotel dead opposite it.

Whilst in Bologna:

Gorge yourself to death on the food. It's stunningly good. If you can, try a bowl of tortellini in brodo. Proper cucina povera, it's little totellini in a thin broth. Simple, yet delicious.

Try the Lambrusco. Seriously. Red, fizzy and served in a cup. Nice. The beer's good to, don't worry.

Walk up the porticoes to the Sanctuary of San Luca, if you're feeling energetic. All the porticoes are numbered. Start at no.1 and just keep walking....

And a proper full-time round up of the trip is needed, complete with photos, if there isn't one already.

Ta.

Well we had a shopping detour into San Marino as apparently 3rd party countries are VAT exempt at source. Her card is steaming!
Just made it into Bologna at 1820.
San Luca on the Noddy train looks interesting with a gentle walk back!
Maranello is looking most likely, as for hiring a car!
Owned and driven some nice cars, some on track as well, so that's a pass I think!

You used to have to book to do the Ducati tour.
Don't know if that is still the issue

I’ve done the factory and museum, worthwhile if you can. Arrive on a Duc and you get to use the car park any other bike you park on the road.
The museum may be separate to the factory tour.

Well last night we had a visit from the snot monster!
I think there will be a train ride into Bologna, 'oh that's pretty' and a return to the van.......and maybe some amaro, purely for medicinal purposes.

Bologna has two towers. Both lean. Those Medieval towers were all built as giant willy-waving status symbols to prove power and wealth, but sadly not engineering prowess. Both Bologna towers and the one in Pisa both starting leaning during construction. Clearly there was no Italian for 'Penalty Clauses' back then.
IIRC, you can no longer climb the biggest as it's leaning just a tad too much.

Mind, there's a good pizza place near the bottom that sells bloody good ones for Eur 1.5 a slice (whopping Eur2 if you want fancy toppings)and cold beers at very reasonable prices. If the tower was to fall, I can think of worse things to be doing than having a slice and a beer. :obscene-drinkingcheers:
