This does look awesome. I'd be seriously tempted to make a couple of weeks of it and ride there and back  Hope you have a fab time :D
I could maybe do that next year - ride there and back. This trip would be to learn something about Romania. There are so many mixed reviews about it, both as a tourist and a biker - you could say that about anywhere :P

As for the Transfagarasan, it would not be the main reason I go so not a massive disappointment if I couldn't do it.

Nice, that sounds like a great trip - look forward to hearing about it, hopefully with plenty of pics ;)

RE the kit on the plane, I've done it many times and the previous posters have all angles covered- I know plenty of people who've put their helmet in their suitcase, personally, I've always checked in all my gear apart from the helmet, and taken that as my handbag, using the cavity within it ala gremmers

I've taken my kit on several trips to NZ and the US. I have a carry on bag for the helmet, which is in its usual anti-scratch bag, and I wear the jacket onto the plane. Boots and trousers go in hold luggage. Don't put the helmet in the hold luggage... you'll see why when you see them throwing the bags onto the trolley.
