Ok, was gonna write - Home aids for those with spazzy arms, but thought that might not be ideal in a title!!

BUT -

there isn't much I really struggle with at the moment, but opening jars is big issue - more so out of season cos there's no chance of seeing someone up here to open a jar for me! (Like at the office or something!)

Anyway - has anyone actually used something like this? It's currently on offer at Lakeland, and I have a mate in the uk that I could send it to for him to bring back.

Just, don't want to buy something that isn't going to do the job!!

Buy a jar opener on Amazon, or buy a few different ones on Aliexpress for the same price. I find the metal ones with the serated lid grip will damage the lid, I currently use a silicon one which is fine. I don't have strength issues though, my hands are fucked up with dupuytren's contracture and I can't hold some things, jars being a good example.

I've got something that breaks the seal on a new jar, but quite often I can't then turn it (possibly always had the issue as have very small hands! But much more difficult now on days my arm hurts!).

So I was looking for specific recommendations if possible

I wasn't able to buy on AliExpress the times I've tried before, no idea why not. And whilst Amazon is ok, if something doesn't work, I just have to sort out sending back!!

I know that even with a recommendation it might not work 100% for me, but was hoping someone might be able to recommend something particularly

Mrs.Skub has a weak grip and I bought her one of those openers in the illustration. I had to glue a couple of strips of rubber so the device could grip better on the lid without slipping. So it does work,but it didn't without the rubber.

She gets on better with the little tool that breaks the vacuum,then the lid turns easy.

We've tried lots of jar openers, most aren't great. I had a different one from Lakeland which worked well until it didn't and then it took even more strength to prise it off the jar.
I'd try some dirt cheap ones first, the simpler the better.

Tins openers seem even worse, there are several different ways tins are sealed now and many of them just don't work with electric tin openers I've tried.

Most tins and jars are only difficult the first time you open them.
So why not ask someone in the shop to break the seal when you buy them?

Couple or 3 things.

The Good Grips can openers work pretty well - although the new one we bought isn't as well made as the old one it replaced. Chunky handles seem to work even for those with grip problems - wife struggles with smaller stuff like gripping/opening water bottle tops but is OK with the GG opener.

We have a jar opener from Lakeland iirc - it has a strap that tightens around the lid. They don't seem to have them any more but it's something like this -

Sometimes trying to tighten the lid first breaks the sticktion.

Last time the opener failed was on a jar (preserved lemons) from the fridge. Got it open once it had warmed up to room temp.

If I have a tight lid - it'll only be tight on first opening, I give the bottom of the jar a hefty whallop with the palm of my hand. It's got to be a decent, solid hit with something that's not going to break the jar (banging it on a worktop for example is not recommended) so a girly hit might not work but following the wallop the lid will turn off easily.

It's worth trying instead of spending money that could be spent on beer.

Have you tried a jar lid seal breaker? Jarkey was one of the names for it IIRC.
