Ladies and gentlemen of the jury......

Post by Sadlonelygit »

Someone I know has messaged me saying his son's 3 yo bike (European 125 4t) went in for a service, and on the way home stopped. Recovered back to dealer who have diagnosed!!!!! low/no compression.
I'm thinking someone has messed up the valve clearances, but no idea if it's shim* or screw and locknut.
The dealership are being very ' well it was running fine when it left' about it.
Should they have a look inside the head foc or should the owner suck it up and Keep Throwing Money at it?

*Edit: it's a shimmed head

Depends what service it had... if it had valve clearances then yeah i'd be asking questions.

It's VERY suspicious isn't it....

As Weeksy says if it's had a valve clearance service then I'd be be pointing at that. If not then more of a sticky wicket.

As has been said,if all they did was an oil change, brake pads or something, then the KTM shit itself, but if they were working on the engine, then they have to stand over their work.

Did they forget to refill the engine with oil after the oil change?
It does happen, many years ago,for my 17th birthday I P/Xd my moped for a Honda CB125T,rode it home & started checking things on the bike, removed the dipstick to check the oil level,no oil :wtf: ..

It would be easy for the dealer to do a leak test into the cylinder and see were the pressure was being lost.
5 min job and then at least you know what your dealing with.

If it's had a new plug, it might have not been tightened properly.
