???? Do they need to be warm to work?? I see loads out on balconies here!!!
I think it's less of a problem for freezers but iirc if the exterior temperature is less than the device interior they can go into reverse or summat.
Kinda don't need the fridge in that situation anyway right, even if it were the case?
If it goes into reverse heat pump mode it may heat the inside? @Rockburner will probably remember what the issue was.

I wouldn't have thought so, but maybe...

The 'hot side' is always outside the box, I can't think of way for a fridge to run in reverse but I certainly haven't spent an enormous amount of time poking around domestic fridges :D

Way more fundamentally though, if the interior gets very cold then the thermostat just won't kick in anyway. The fridge won't try and run 'cause the inside is already cold. At which point it just becomes an overblown cupboard?

There's a few explanations if you Google 'why don't fridges work in the cold' inc coolant operating temperature range, thermostat. One thing suggested that, because there's only one compressor on a fridge/freezer and the fridge thermostat thinks everything is cold enough...the freezer thaws out. :hmmm:

The inside didn't get hot. It just didn't get cold enough because iirc a domestic fridge it's designed for an exterior temperature above about 7 degrees, (or something). Below that they just don't operate, and the internal temp rises to match the external.

Getting a ferry across the Thames.

(Stayed at a different Canary Wharf hotel than usual, which involves a complementary ferry 🤣)

Sitting in the dentist's waiting room. Only a check up, but always a tad unsettling.

Bloody cold here today, not the 23 C it was in Spain. :(

Washed the bike ready for MOT, so did the car too, just got to vac it. Off out for a ride after vac and cuppa.
Then some sleep ready for nights later.
Suns out, 9 degrees but it’ll do for now!!

The reason I read years ago was some fridge freezers only have one thermostat in the fridge which controls cooling for both, if the unit is used in freezing temps then the fridge thermostat never gets warm enough to switch on and the freezer ends up defrosting.
So fridge freezers with 2 thermostats would be ok.

Standing at a very cold bus station. Looks like the bus times have changed bus no one has amended any of the info! Here’s hoping the 19:15 one arrives cos I’ll be peeved if it doesn’t ☹️☹️

We (me and Mrs CJ) arrive tomorrow, staying at the Phonecia. Wave as you go to the airport.

You had the better weather. Cloudy here this evening, and a bit chilly.

It pissed it down on Wednesday afternoon/evening if that helps! Lovely yesterday and this morning though 😊
Here's hoping you get more of that 👍
