Quite like the grey one actually.

Re: XSR900GP
I saw pictures yesterday of them all lined up awaiting the media road testers and influencers. There was a lot of bikes.
Made me wonder what they do with them all afterwards, they can't sell them as brand new after they've been raped on the launch?

Re: XSR900GP
One of my KTMs was a demo/whatever thing from KTM, got at a great price, had 70 miles on it. I can't see how they could have ridden much harder than I did

I guess I mean that they've not been run in, but do bikes even need running in these days?

Nah. I rode my bikes home from the shop. That was it. Then straight out on track.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2024 4:48 pm I guess I mean that they've not been run in, but do bikes even need running in these days?

Not mine. Me and couch had my 690 on track in back to back sessions at Donny with 100 miles on clocksKungFooBob wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2024 4:48 pm I guess I mean that they've not been run in, but do bikes even need running in these days?

Lamb Chop is out in Portugal at the moment for the launch, according to his FB, so I keep checking in to see if any actual tests have been uploaded, but nothing as yet.

It's an XSR900 in a frock, how much of a road test do you need, just buy one if you want one.
TBH I don't get why anyone takes any notice of roadtests, how does someone else know whether you'll like a bike.

Road tests are popular, magazines and TV have sold a lot of media on this stuff, I don't get why you don't like reading about road tests if they're done well.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2024 8:27 pm It's an XSR900 in a frock, how much of a road test do you need, just buy one if you want one.

I'm interested in this XSR but with all the go-faster bits then it's big bucks, it'a about £18k and I think that's a lot of money to spend on a motorcycle unless it's something quite special that makes you feel really good about it - and I don't think it is.
But I suppose I'm not an average punter, I'd be paying cash in full, whereas the average bloke will have gone for one of the finance packages and he won't look at the big bottom line, he'll see a couple of hundred quid a month and sign himself up.

For that price you can get a proper sports bike rather than one tarted up to pretend to be one.Potter wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2024 9:45 pmRoad tests are popular, magazines and TV have sold a lot of media on this stuff, I don't get why you don't like reading about road tests if they're done well.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2024 8:27 pm It's an XSR900 in a frock, how much of a road test do you need, just buy one if you want one.

Re: XSR900GP
I’m genuinely not being sarcastic here, because it’s probably a decent debate actually, but I don’t know what constitutes a sports bike, other than looks?
For me it’s more about it being double the price of the standard ones sitting on showroom floors being punted out with big discounts.
I like the idea of a basic platform and you add parts to suit your budget, but the price needs to come down. I can’t get away from the feeling that if I bought one I’d be paying double for a fancy paint job and some clip-on handlebars.

Re: XSR900GP
BUt does that matter in the slightest ? They're not double the price of 24 models anyway... but yes they're more money.
However it's like buying a car without a radio and air-con "can't help but feeling i'm getting charged more for things" well that's just the world we live in, you want something 'different' then it's more expensive than the base item.
You could wait 12 months and get a GP version for less.... but really, why...
It's £12285 vs a base model at £107900 i mean does it really really matter ?

Re: XSR900GP
Like you I pay cash for motorcycles, and a few grand does make a difference when it comes straight off your bank balance, and for me it comes down to how much do I want a bike, there's no bike currently available that I'd pay £12K for, I don't want any of them that much, if Honda had of released the CB900F styled CB1000R I was fully prepared to pay £15K for that, and still would.
If you want one enough, buy one, but do you want one enough?

Re: XSR900GP
Well I'm back to how you pay for it really, if you pay on the drip then it's probably an extra £20 a month and it hardly raises an eyebrow, and that's how they get you. But if you're paying cash then it's a few grand extra and it's a big deal, well it is for me, even if I was sat on a lottery win I'd still appreciate the value of money and I'd still wince at paying a few grand extra for something that I don't feel is worth it.
Bottom line though is I don't want it badly enough, my biking mojo is pretty much rock bottom at the moment and I've got a full plate in terms of work and family stuff to keep me occupied, so another bike would sit there alongside the ones I have and not get used, so I might as well wait until I feel more of an urge and then try to pick up a low milage used one when people start trading them in on their PCP deals.
