Re: A right now thread
I wouldn't have thought so, but maybe...
The 'hot side' is always outside the box, I can't think of way for a fridge to run in reverse but I certainly haven't spent an enormous amount of time poking around domestic fridges
Way more fundamentally though, if the interior gets very cold then the thermostat just won't kick in anyway. The fridge won't try and run 'cause the inside is already cold. At which point it just becomes an overblown cupboard?

Re: A right now thread
There's a few explanations if you Google 'why don't fridges work in the cold' inc coolant operating temperature range, thermostat. One thing suggested that, because there's only one compressor on a fridge/freezer and the fridge thermostat thinks everything is cold enough...the freezer thaws out.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 4:17 pm I wouldn't have thought so, but maybe...

Re: A right now thread
The inside didn't get hot. It just didn't get cold enough because iirc a domestic fridge it's designed for an exterior temperature above about 7 degrees, (or something). Below that they just don't operate, and the internal temp rises to match the external.Count Steer wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 3:53 pmIf it goes into reverse heat pump mode it may heat the inside? @Rockburner will probably remember what the issue was.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 2:44 pmKinda don't need the fridge in that situation anyway right, even if it were the case?Count Steer wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 3:21 pm

Sitting in the dentist's waiting room. Only a check up, but always a tad unsettling.
Bloody cold here today, not the 23 C it was in Spain.

Picking up after having two Bobcats* fighting in the house. Like a bastard wrecking crew when they are chasing each other around the place and fighting! Good entertainment though!

Re: A right now thread
The reason I read years ago was some fridge freezers only have one thermostat in the fridge which controls cooling for both, if the unit is used in freezing temps then the fridge thermostat never gets warm enough to switch on and the freezer ends up defrosting.Rockburner wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 7:30 pmThe inside didn't get hot. Kinda don't need the fridge in that situation anyway right, even if it were the case?
So fridge freezers with 2 thermostats would be ok.

Chilling with a pre-dinner glass of fizz on the rooftop terrace of the Malta Marriott on my last visit here for possibly ever.
