I thought you had a motorhomeTaipan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 11:36 am I'd have loved a VW transporter type camper as it'd be a daily driver as well, but a camper without bathroom facilities is no use to me. If Mrs T needed the toilet there is no way she'd go traipsing across a dark campsite to use the facilities, which means I'd have to go with her and I'd not fancy doing that.
For me, campervans should basically be a drivable studio flat! They need to have a bed, bathroom, kitchen and lounge, albeit smaller versions. Even though I rarely use our campers kitchen and bathroom, having them there for when I have needed them has shown the versatility of a properly featured campervan. Anything less is a compromise that will get old quickly.
We were going to upgrade to a motorhome last year but talking with other motorhome owners put us off. Being that bit wider and longer really holds you back from travelling certain routes and parking etc and we've always liked the fact our one can get us pretty much anywhere we've wanted, with the odd exception.

Being from Essex I thought he had a caravan, two lurchers on a length of string and did a bit of 'kerbside guarantee' tarmacing of driveways in his spare time.

Re: VW Campers?
No Mate, we have an Adria Twin Campervan. As I said we did start looking for a motorhome last year, but got put off due to the restrictions the additional size brings. I expect we'll do the same again this year...weeksy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 11:39 amI thought you had a motorhomeTaipan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 11:36 am I'd have loved a VW transporter type camper as it'd be a daily driver as well, but a camper without bathroom facilities is no use to me. As an analogy, the VW is the Harley of the Moho world.
You're buying the lifestyle aspirations of California dreaming, cruising the Pacific coast highway with a blonde haired babe as a navigator and a surf board on the roof.
Not quite the same as a wet weekend in GT Yarmouth with a leaky pop up!

Re: VW Campers?
Ignore my commenst from earlier, I though we were talking real VW Campers - not the modern days transit type vans.
I went to Morzine and back in a VW T "something" camper. It was noisy, drank fuel, had a history of issues and wasn't a lot of fun to drive. But it did get 3 bikes into it

If I down-rated(?!?) to PLG I could go into the smoke, but then I'd have to pay £360 road rent instead of the £170........and I live in France most of the time so no need to go there anyway!

Isn't France rolling out "Crit'Air" into a lot of its cities now? We're not going over this year but IIRC I'm supposed to get a crit air sticker thing for my van when I do?Sadlonelygit wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 1:29 pm If I down-rated(?!?) to PLG I could go into the smoke, but then I'd have to pay £360 road rent instead of the £170........and I live in France most of the time so no need to go there anyway!

Re: VW Campers?
Easy to get, I have one for the bike. Cheap too, although I have no idea how much it would cost for a van.Taipan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 1:33 pmIsn't France rolling out "Crit'Air" into a lot of its cities now? Re: VW Campers?
Why would you want to take a 6m camper into London anyway? Park in the suburbs and take public transport in.

Re: VW Campers?
Anybody with ideas of getting one of these, or a caravan, should spend a wet weekend in one with two small children.

Re: VW Campers?
Easy peasy to get hold of, about £4 from the French govt website. Afaik, only 10 or so cities require one, however Rouen is one, and if you come from Dieppe/Calais, highly likely you'll go through there!Taipan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 1:33 pmIsn't France rolling out "Crit'Air" into a lot of its cities now? Used to take a 12m coach into the smoke, guess I just like being an awkward cunt!
