Sorry - I meant that the raspberry plants themselves were eaten! First all the leaves were stripped off, then what remained was cut down to about an inch high. I think it was probably deer.Potter wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 2:23 pmYeah we get that issue with a lot of our fruits, the plums and apples do well just because of sheer volume, the Logan berries, Blueberries, etc, seem to get hammered by birds.Rockburner wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 2:08 pmWe tried raspberries last year.... they were eaten almost instantly by the local fauna.Potter wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 5:54 pm Car boot sale, took 3yr old niece to fun fair.
Made a lasagne.
Cleared out the two ponds so we could put the fountains back on and the pump that pumps the water to the higher pond for the little waterfall.
Planted poppies, replanted the strawberry bushes and tried to work out why my raspberries keep dying on me when my Logan Berries, Blue Berries and Boysen Berries are thriving in the same spot with the same soil/light conditions.
We keep Strawberries and some other stuff in the greenhouse, otherwise they'd get tanned as well.
I'm fed up with Rhubarb, it's like a weed, can't get rid of it, and we've got potatoes that spring up everywhere.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Bought another Makita tool to add to the set.
Orbital sander. Could have gone in the pleasing purchases section but I haven't used it yet. Pretty stingy to supply it with only one medium sanding disc though - they could have put coarse/medium/fine ones in.
Oh. Got a Scruffs belt too. (In the catalogue it says 30" to 40" waist. On the packaging it says L-XL. OK, 40" is pretty X but 30" = L for an adult these days? )
I used two of my pleasing purchases today though - a pair of joiner's clamps to do some gluing of wood. These were the smallish ones, I bought a trio of big 'uns to repair a bench seat - they worked pretty well too. Probably cost more than the bench.

Took the brown car to the garage today - new cambelt, tensioners, water pump, oil & filter change. I can sleep comfortably now without the worry of impending diesel doom....

I went to the gym and the pacman machine strength tested me and adjusted the game. Got jelly legs now and using the stairs was iffy!

My work van is the older LDV Maxus. The SAIC motor that cam after the Maxus was not bad but the Facebook page for these is full of complaints about the Delivery 9. Must be for every 1 saying how good they are you have another 9 saying how shit they are and the warranty is not worth a fuck. Folk have them in the garage with gearbox problems. They need to order a new box from China what is clearly not on the same boat as the Amazon Chinese TAT as they take months to get delivered.asmethurst99 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 5:20 pm Had hire van woes - easily sorted in 90 mins by RAC v helpful patrolman - hire company chaps were decent as well.
Maxu delivery 9 Chinese jobber - the van.
When I took it back they said “yeah we’re having loads of trouble with these”

Another lovely, sunny day,so her and I headed out for a good walk,a good breakfast/lunch at a local greasy spoon, another walk, then I came home and cut next door's grass.
It's to be another sunny day tomorrow,so I'll cut my own grass and maybe get a skelp out on the bike.
This is probably our Summer.

5.5 mile walk
1 mile swim non stop
9 mile cycle.
The swim and cycle were about 3 mins slower than normal. I can blame the wind for poor cycle time, but no excuse for the swim. Funny coz I felt great ???

Re: What have you done today thread?
Was sat on the Highway, East London, coming into town. The traffic had stopped and I couldn't get between two lorries, so I was sat in neutral, just chilling. I then see two horses, both saddled yet riderless, coming down the opposite carriageway at a fair trot. One was dark, the other white and the white one seemed to have blood all over the front of it. Following behind at a discrete distance was a police car with blue lights on, but no noises, obviously. No idea what the feck that was all about.
Most bizarre thing I've seen whilst commuting in quite some years....

Re: What have you done today thread?
Just spotted a magpie trying to get at the juicy bits of a dead something on the back garden. Had a closer look with the monocular...to see if it was Squirrel Nutkin....ah.
So, just been out and bagged up a dead, adult rat and put it in the bin. (Assuming it was poisoned. Not that poisoning a few magpies would give me a sleepless night but don't want to be bagging up the neighbours cat, Mr Fox or a red kite or a buzzard too).

Just missed household cavalry horses running loose! Absolute traffic chaos and ended up going up through Shoreditch to get to work. Got in the wrong land at a junction and cut across to get in the right one. Just hope I didn't get nicked again!!

What time was you there? I filtered to the front about 09:40, but i'm guessing it had gone on a lot longer, as I expect you keep more usual hours than me?gremlin wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:38 amTaipan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:33 am Just missed household cavalry horses running loose! Re: What have you done today thread?
I think it was about 8.40-ish. I was just past St. George's Pool on the Highway. My first thought was that there was some filming going on nearby and the hags had got loose. Never guessed they'd come all the way from Buckingham Palace to the East End. I reckon they were heading to south London via the Blackwall Tunnel. Even daft nags knows the grass is greener south of the water.Taipan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 11:23 amWhat time was you there? Re: What have you done today thread?
Traffic at stopped at the junction with Glammis Road. They had 2 horses that I could see and the horse box turned uop whilst I was there and squaddies with red riding hats jumped out to attend. As you say, it was all very bizzare. I could see nothing was going to happen soon, so about turned and cut across to the A13.gremlin wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 12:01 pmI think it was about 8.40-ish. Re: What have you done today thread?
Do you come up the Highway every day? I do the Blackwall then sweep around Cotton Street to go through the Limehouse. I used to throw a left at Glammis but the bus gate buggered that up. Straight down the Highway and then left by the little Sainsbury's. My building is the tall white one in that complex.Taipan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 12:12 pmTraffic at stopped at the junction with Glammis Road. Mind you: still worth going left down Glammis and having a pint in the Prospect and then some nosebag (horsey pun intended) in Il Bordello. Proper old-school Italian restaurant.

There's something you don't see every day.
Still paying closer attention to the traffic lights than cyclists too.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Mainly yes. It's the easiest route to follow as I go right down the embankment to Temple Station. Getting too many Plod with speed guns down that route and bagged 6 points last year , so I have taken to going the London Wall option, but the rabid, holier-than-thou cyclists do my nut in...gremlin wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 12:20 pmDo you come up the Highway every day?
